Indy

Question:
My sister found out yesterday that her exhusband put their Siberian Husky, Indy, down. He gave her the reason that he had turned mean, grabbing at people and his self. Has anyone had expierences like this with their dog? What would make a dog act this way?

Answer:
Suzoo has a lot of experience with dog agression. I'm sure she can shed some light on this issue

Answer:
Poor socialization would cause a dog to do that but if the dog turned mean, I would say fear or stress, etc. It sounds fishy to me though.

Me too. My sister only got to pop in and out since the divorce since it was... not happy but he did it a month ago without telling her until she tried to make plans for a visit.

Answer:
How old was Indy and how long had they had him? Did he ever have any temperment problems before? I think it's really low for an ex to do that without informing the other..

Answer:
They had him 8 years about 4 before the divorce and then 4 after. Indy was always high spirited but never aggresive. My sister's ex husband had a girlfriend and she had kids that got along with Indy.

Answer:
We can all guess what could have happened but it would be just that.. a guess. Without knowing the dog, we obviously can't know what happened. Indy could have had a medical problem and was snapping out of pain.. it could be fear aggression.. who knows?
I feel bad that your sister didn't get a chance to say goodbye or maybe find a better solution for Indy..

Answer:
i would say it could happen my dog turned aggesive after she was scared by the next door neibor who was moving thier fridge out she since then has been more intense in her barking and more putting on a show i would say if something really scares a dog it could turn mean or a better word defensive was your dog confined? if so he may have felt he had no choice as far as him grabbing himself i would say thats a wacko dog or had some serius mental problems

Answer:
Grabbing himself as in biting himself? He might have been under a lot of stress, dogs like order in their lives. The divorce is as traumatising on the dog as it would be on human children.

That's quite horrible of your sister's ex-husband. I'm sorry for her loss

Answer:
I think the "grabbing at people and his self" meant the dog had started grabbing at the ex? Is that what you meant Tara?
