My Dog is Throwing Up......

Question:
his food when he first starts to eat. Why do you think that is?

Could he be eatting too fast? He only does it when he first starts to eat. It has no odor.

We feed him Kibbles and Bits. Do you think it is the food and we should change what we feed him?

Thanks
Laura

Answer:
You should definately switch to a higher quality food..
Kibbles & Bits has so many preservatives & food coloring in it that the shelf life is something like 4 years! Your dog is most likely reacting to the ingredients..
We have quite a few threads on POTN about dog food... check them out and pick one of the better choices..
Good tip for you.. if you can buy it in Walmart or a grocery store.. it's not a quality food..

Is he vomiting un-digested food? Usually if they are eating too quickly the food comes back up and its fully formed and surrounded by bile..

Answer:
You could try putting a tennis ball in his dish so that he has to eat around it. It should slow him down a bit. Also, if he is a larger dog, try lifting his bowl up to the level of his shoulders so he's not bending down to eat.

And definitely change foods. Kibbles and Bits is one of the lowest quality foods in terms of ingredients.

Answer:
Also has a lot of dyes in it- the dyes alone will make them sick.

Here is a table of some of the best foods available, were to buy- and explains why certain ingredients are not good. I found it very helpful.

Answer:
my pets have decided they REALLY like the chicken soup for the pet lover's soul line..lucy the basset hound is on the senior dog food and pepper the cat is on the regular adult cat formula...good stuff, good ingredients, they don't eat as much, and though it is pricey, it goes a long way and they are healthier

Answer:
Jenna, thanks for posting that link!

Answer:
Thanks for the insite on the dog food. I will get a better quality food for both my dogs. I am going to try Iams.

Thanks

Laura

Oh, I am going to try the tennis ball trick. He really does eat too fast.

Answer:
if i may, iams isn't exactly a better quality dog food..i would look for Nutro Natural Choice...they sell it at the commissary so it might be easier to find, the packaging looks kind of generic so i passed over it a few times till i noticed somebody talking about it here...
