Answer:
Although I do not think Pitbulls should be bred do to their aggresive behaviour, it is sad to know that they will one day become extinct in some parts of the world.I personally would never own because of their strange aggression, I have had heard horror stories about them. Right here in my city a women had a pair of pitties and a shepard and they got along great until one day the pitties tore the shepard to pieces for no reason. They make good pets, I wouldn't have any other animals or children around them though.

Answer:
lilia, it all depends on their breeding, how they are raised, how they are kept, and their individual personality, just like ALL other dog breeds. they do have some specific traits, like all other dog breeds..they are highly protective, for instance. and their head and jaw shape and size make it where if they bite, it's serious..where other kinds of dogs can bite and it not be such a big deal.

i stand by my statement, that this kind of breed profiling is no different than racism...a lot of reported dog bites are by pits, and a lot of crack deals are by blacks, but does that mean you shouldn't trust a black person? of course not...and suggesting such a thing, nowadays, would get you in a world of trouble in most places.

of course, i would be happy if ANY dog breeder had to pass a licensing process to prove that they have the animal's best intentions at heart...but that's just a dream of mine :P

Answer:
From what I have read and learned, it is not wise to take a Pit Bull to a dog park or doggy beach. It is a big no no.

10 Easy to Remember Tips for Responsible Pit Bull Owners

8. Avoid dog parks. While your Pit Bull is a puppy and up to date on all their shots going to a dog park isn't a bad idea. However, when the dog gets older it turns into a bad idea. Because you have a Pit Bull is not the main reason for not going to places like these. Rather it's because other dogs and owners are not responsible and let their dogs run around like jackasses. This can cause friction between your dog and another dog at the park. Not a good scene rio.

Answer:
^ and of course, if you have the pit, you take the blame.

Before too long, they'll be seperate water fountains and rest rooms for pitbull owners.

Answer:
In no way can you compare a black person to a pit bull. Pit bull's are not easily tamed and even when they are they are so unpredictable, you can not teach it not to bite, whether it has the best owner in the world or the worst there have been cases in which the dog just loses it. I don't think anyone is a bad person for having one but shame on them if they choose to have a pit bull around children or other small animals, they are just asking for trouble.

we've had this discussion before, several times.

how many pit bulls have you owned, bred, and trained? or even known personally?

do you know the REAL statistics on dog bites and attacks? or just what you read in papers?

http://www.pets-on-the-net.com/forum...ad.php?t=15502

there's a thread you should probably read through, lots of information and valid points brought up there. and yes, it is EXACTLY the same, judging a breed because of media attention is EXACTLY the same as judging a race of people...actually, worse, because the dogs have no choice in how they are raised and treated.

I have to disagree with this. Pit Bulls were bred NOT TO BE human agressive! During the early days of fighting Pit Bulls, the Pit Bulls were culled if they behaved agressively towards their owners. Pit Bulls are extremely loyal dogs and their lives revolve around their family. When it comes to small animals, it all depends on the dog. Some Pit Bulls do not tolerate small animals nor even cats, others are fine with small animals and cats. Any responsible dog owner will tell you they supervise their dog with children. I don't think ANY dog should be left alone with a child!

And Jami said it perfectly. Animals do not have a say in how they are bred, raised ,or treated. It is still discrimination nonetheless.

Answer:
I really do not see how being discriminatory towards an animals is worse then towards a human being. Some people have no say in how they are raised and treated.I feel more sorry when I hear about a child getting hurt then an animal for the simple fact that I value human life ALOT. I read the story about how in the states a perfectly well behaved pitbull drug off a newborn child and killed it. Obviously they are too unpredictable to be around anything smaller then itself. I have been over at a friends house who has two pitbulls and she has them trained but the younger one jumped at my face and growled at me and I was just standing there. I really don't think it just wanted attention, when I was out camping when I was 6 years old I had a pitbull chase me and my friends and corner us, it obviously would have hurt us if the owner hadn't come running. I would NEVER own one as a pet unless I got rid of all my other animals and never invited people over. That way you could eliminate any thing that may make it become aggressive. That's my opinion though,I know my whole family feels the same way as I do and many other people too, they are too unpredictable, just like you would never keep a coyote as a pet, why would you risk keeping a pitt bull? I look at my humane society all the time and I see about 4 pitbulls every time and the reason they are there is because they were aggressive towards people.

Answer:
You obviously don't have your facts straight when it comes to Pit Bulls. This is a link that talks about the myths of Pit Bulls: http://www.badrap.org/rescue/myths.cfm

While abusing children is horrible so is animal abuse. Why? Animals can not speak for themselves and are just as vulnerable as children. Human beings are allowed to do what they want with animals. We are at their mercy.

Comparing owning a wolf to a Pit Bull is ridiculous! Pit Bulls have been domesticated for hundreds of years. That is like saying, "I wouldn't own a tiger so why would I own a Pit Bull"? And you think the reason why so many Pitties are at The Humane Society is because they are agressive towards people? How about because the dogs are abused by humans and left to roam the streets? Do youknow how many humans abuse Pit Bulls on a daily basis? But we don't hear about that do we? We only hear about the horrible, viscious, Pit Bulls that attack humans and other animals. As for your experiences with Pit Bulls, I wonder how much training they have had? Were the dogs bred by reputable breeders or BYB breeders? You have a lot to learn about this breed of dog.

And one more thing, take a look at these pictures and tell me human beings are not at fault for the mistreatment of this breed?

THe truth about dogfighting
