Eating His Fur & Bedding?!?!
Question: We have had some trouble now for a while with Loki deciding that his blankets are SOOOOO tasty that he eats them! Of course then he runs around all day coughing until he throws what he ate back up. He does this also with his fur. I have found him licking up clumps of his fur and then coughing and throwing them up. I try to keep the floor well vacuumed but that doesn't stop him from trying somedays. Is this just normal behavior for some dogs? He has toys and we switch toys now and then so that he doesn't always have the same thing. We take him out for walks or bike rides (he gets to run a lot that way) and anytime we can we take him with us places. Maybe he is bored still? He was tearing apart squeeky toys and eating balls too so he cannot have those unsupervised. But I don't want him to not have blankets!!!! I'd feel like a horrible parent then. He's 5 years old, I'd understand it better if he was a pup. Answer: i had a friend who had a dog who was doing this, and her dog, karma, died last week with her intestines tied in knots from this. they tried everything to save her and could not. please, see a vet asap for a check up and preventative ideas etc. Answer: Do you give him things for serious chewers? Or just 'generic' toys and chew items? Answer: I am not sure what things qualify for serious chewers, he does have a very hard rubber ball that he cannot chew apart and we usually have a giant bone or rawhide chew. We have tennis balls for throwing outside and a tug of war rope. He loves to chew up sticks outside and usually brings one in the house. And we have a doggie soccer ball that he can throw around the house without damaging things. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
