Spayed or not?

Question:
Okay, I have the documents for Keesha and Ally and in the surrender forms it says that they are both spayed. When I took them to the vet for a regular check-up, the vet said Keesha is definately spayed, even I could see it since her wound still had stitches in it when my friend brought her home.
Now Ally is a bit of a mystery, the vet said that either the vet who did her spay is very skilled or she's not actually spayed at all since my vet could not find a scar on her belly. Now the vet estimated Ally to be about 2 yrs old and from my general knowledge, female dogs come into heat twice a year usually, right?
I found some spots of blood on one of their beds, it can't be Keesha so it has to be Ally. I checked them both for wounds and nothing came up. Are there any other signs of a female dog in heat that I can look out for?

Answer:
I'm not sure what the exact area is called but their vagina we'll say swells up quite bad,,,,,,or at least my friends bull mastiffs did and it bled quite abit,,,shes the only dog I have seen in heat

Answer:
Ally likes her tummy rubbed so I can check her bum easily, it's been normal so far.
I've also noticed that Ally's nipples are not very easily felt, in fact, I can't find them at all! If she was in heat would there be a change in her nipples as well? Her temperament has stayed the same, she hasn't been moody or anything.

Answer:
With all my girl dogs that have gone in heat they would leave blood everywhere and you could just look at their privite part and see it red.

Answer:
With our Rott/German Shpeherd mix (that shoudl have been fixed immediately, but that's another story), you coulnd't really tell that she was in heat when she was. Her vagina area did swell a little, but she was real good at cleaning up any blood and she didn't have much.
I would talk to the vet some more and see if there is any other way to tell other than a scar. My Matty has a scar that's pretty visible, but Lucy does not. Maybe the vet could tell you if she is in fact in heat? Another sign would be if any un-altered males in the building have been going nuts trying to get to her....

Answer:
Do you think they could do an ultrasound? I had one done on my cat Syd and it was quite inexpensive...I think around $80.

Answer:
No signs of the males going gaga over her yet. I have to check with my vet, I'm not sure how much they'd charge for an ultrasound and I think she also said they could do other tests to be sure like urine tests?

Answer:
All of our girls had scars that you could see. We only had one dog that wasn't spayed right away and she left spots all over where she sat. It was quite messy. I hope your able to find out. Maybe the Urine tests will be able to determine if she is in heat forsure but that's just a guess.

Answer:
I am keeping a close eye on her, that's for sure

Answer:
CJ...your friend adopted them from the Humane Society right? I would contact the shelter and ask them if it would be possible for them to call the previous owners and find out which Vet Clinic the dogs were spayed at...then they can verify it for sure by calling the Vet Clinic...
When dogs are surrendered by their owners at our shelter...we ask them to bring all the medical records with them...if they show up without them then we ask for the Clinic that they used so we can verify it ourselves...so it can be done...I would want to know if it was me.. Good Luck!
