Update on Logan

Question:
I talked to the breeder last night (Sue, she has been very busy and didn't get a chance to check her emails ) and she said Logan is getting bigger and bigger by the minute. She said the puppies are playing a lot more and sleeping less. They all go for their shots and microchipping today. She just can't wait for us to come on Sunday and of course I feel the same way. She also mentioned she has 5 babies left and it would be wonderful if I took two of them home. I told her it was a very tempting offer but we would have to think about it. I have a feeling when we go there on Sunday Dave is going to fall in love with the female she has available. I know I certainly won't fall in love with her. I don't think we will take home two but the breeder shouldn't have put the bug in my ear.

Answer:
I am so excited for you Denise....its so hard waiting but the time is almost here.
Good luck with not falling in love with any of the puppies....I think Logan would love to have one of his siblings to grow up with and play with

Answer:
It sounds like the pups are all doing well. It'll be hard to say no to another . When I was younger, we went to get a St. Bernard from a breeder, and brought 2 home (brother and sister), and I must say, they were so happy together, and couldn't stand being away from each other. When the male had hip problems, we had to isolate him after surgery from her, and they cried for each other, it was so touching

Answer:
Shall we start a poll: How many will Denise bring home with her

Answer:
I certainly hope you don't get two! Raising litter mates is a big no, no and a HUGE time commitment! I am surprised the breeder even suggested it. You will have your hands full enough with just Logan. I can't wait to see him home

Answer:
Lizz, why do you say that? Is it because of the possibility of them mating? I have heard of people taking home littermates. ????

Answer:
Denise, did you ever end up sending you-smelling t-shirts to the breeder?

Answer:
Liz, no. I think he will be okay. As long as we bring an article of clothing from each of us when we pick him up, he can cuddle with it on the way home.

Answer:
While yes, some morons believe that if they take home brother and sister they won't mate, this is not the reason I mentioned it (plus you know better ). The problem with getting 2 puppies at the same time, especially 2 littermates is creating the proper training environment for the puppy to learn it's place and to bond with YOU and not the other puppy. Getting a second puppy is like having 4 puppies, not adding one more. Each puppy must receive it's OWN personal training, attention, schooling, socialization etc... The puppies should be fed and crated seperatly. No more then an hour of contact each day for a supervised visit. This obviously takes ALOT of time and very few people are able to raise 2 well mannered dogs of society. Allowing two puppies to be with each other 24/7 bonds then together as they look to each other for guidance as opposed to you. At this stage in their life the other puppy is just far more interesting then you can ever hope to be. If they are littermates often that bond will already be there and for you to try and wedge yourself in will be hard. You also don't want to raise dogs dependant on one another, so if you have to take one somewhere on it's own you are able to do so. With the highly intelligent breeds and their stubborness it's going to take alot of convincing in the first place that they should listen to you. Trying to get 2 puppies to realise this is very trying. Most COE breeders never keep more then one pup from a litter simply for that reason. They just do not have the time to lead 2 seperate pup lives. Inevitably one of the puppies gets the short end of the stick. Since this is your first puppy ( I think that's right?) I HIGHLY recomend you stick with one!

Answer:
Lizz, thanks for explaining that. My heart is not set on getting two. I know I will have my hands full with Logan. Hopefully we can add another one down the road.
