Recipe for De-Skunking your dog

Question:
Thought I'd share a simple recipe to use if your dog encounters a skunk. People still think tomato juice works but it doesn't.. So try this.. it works well.
Mix together..
- one quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 tsp liquid soap
Apply to dog, clothes or your skin (if you got sprayed too) using a cloth or a spray bottle..
Leave on for 5 minutes and then rinse.
The smell should be gone..
Remember that it contains peroxide so it may cause a slight lightening of your dog's fur (especially if it's a black dog.. it'll look like he has highlights).

Answer:
Plain ole' tomatoe juice works great too

Answer:
Not as good as this does..
My friends have 2 shephards that seem to get sprayed more often than most dogs.. they said you have to do a few washes with tomato juice to really get the smell out.. they swear by this recipe.

Ouch! That sounds really abrasive. Is 3% hydrogen peroxide the regular stuff or is it weaker?

Answer:
This is the receipe we use at work and it works very well. HOWEVER we NEVER give out the receipe as it is HIGHLY reactive if stored in a closed container. It must be made up and used immmediatly. It is not something to be stored for later. USE AT OWN RISK! And wear gloves, it burns.

Tomato juice does NOT work, please stop dying dogs orange, it makes my job MUCH harder Darn orange doesn't come out....

Answer:
Once made up you have to use within 24 hours.. so if you only have a little dog you'd have to adjust accordingly.
Danielle, Yes.. 3% is the regular stuff they sell in the Pharmacy section.

Answer:
I saw this one on PetKeeping with Mark Morone (sp?) Be sure to rinse really well or it will bleach out your pet's fur! Tomato juice just masks the smell- doesn't take the odor away.

Answer:
You are lucky! I wish it would work for the ones around here because I hate doing skunk baths. But all I get are stinky, orange dogs trying to give me kisses

Answer:
