Hey guys! Question..

Question:
Hi guys I'm getting another puppy, the puppy will be 6wks when I get the puppy so I want to know do I have to soften the food with milk or water? My sister is getting 5 puppies from her friend and I will be taking one and all I know is that they are still trying to get the dogs use to real food.

Answer:
Isn't your current dog just a puppy? If so, It's really not recommended to get a second puppy for a while. It could cause you problems with training and obedience. I think Lixx has more info on this. Maybe she can elaborate a bit.

Answer:
here's the link where Lixx talks about why it's not good to have two puppies at once:

Answer:
Don't give the puppy milk.. you could soften it with some warm water though.. or just feed canned puppy food until he's bit older..

Answer:
My puppy is 6months old. But he's doing very well I didn't think it would be any trouble with another puppy around. I have had dogs all my life and never heard of that, but thank you for the link I will read it.

If I feed it canned puppy food do I also put hard food or no?
Thank you girls!eace:" class="inlineimg" />

Answer:
6 weeks?! Why so young. The 7-8 weeks of age are when the pup learns most of it's 'life' manners from the mother. I cannot imagine why on earth the breeder would let them go so young. (unless this is a rescue litter?) A pup taken too young will have a harder time adjusting to adult life then a properly weaned 8 week old one.

At 6 months your other dog is still very much a puppy. I can not remember what breed your other dog is, but most breeds are not mature until 2 years of age. Some are better 3-4 years of age. They should be worked with until that year of age to ensure good canine citizans. After that it's up to you whether to pursue other endevors or simply maintain that level of experiance. You 6 month old is about to go through it's 'teenage' years. This can be a very trying time. Giving the appropriate attention to your exsisting dog while giving the extra care to this very young pup will be very demanding on your time. The 6 month old is certainly not experianced enough to teach the younger pup, and the pup is likely to pick up the bad traits from the 6 month old as it goes through its rebelious stage. I would treat the new pup as a litter mate in the example I posted in the thread Solarsis linked to. You want to make sure the pup bonds and takes direction from you, not the other way around. Do not expect the 2 to babysit each other. This will be like having a full time job at home. I hope you have that much time to give.

What is the breeder currently feeding?

Answer:
Seriously I don't know why she's giving them away this young but she doesn't want them around, she's not really a breeder this is her dogs first litter and she just wants them out so my sister offered to take them.

As a said in my other post I will work with each puppy. I do not except the puppies to take care of eachother.

The breeder is giving them hard puppy food with water on it, but I wasn't sure if this was right. When I got my beagle or any other dogs I have had I didn't need to soften their food.

If you can, try and convince this 'friend' to keep the pups until 8 weeks old. This is typical BYB statagey, to push the pups out asap so they don't have to deal with them anymore, make them someone elses problem. If it were me I would not take them at all until the owners of the parents agreed to have them altered. We don't need more mutts in the world. By taking the pups you give them the quick way out and alieviate them of this problem.

Hopefully someone can give you more food advice, I have never dealt with a pup pre-8 weeks so have not had to deal with that aspect.

Answer:
Obviously you will be taking your puppy to the vet as soon as you get it to have it checked over? I strongly recommend asking the vet for feeding advice. Make sure when you talk to the vet you know what kind of food (brand, etc) the puppy was getting before you accepted the responsibility of being a puppy owner.
