Green Bean Diet?
Question: Anyone doing this? Eeyore is really overweight- I *think* he weighed in at 68 lbs... so the vet suggested that he go on the green bean diet. Just wanted to see what your thoughts were... Answer: I never heard of this diet. Can you elaborate? What type of diet is Eeyore currently on? I would worry bout your dog getting enough nutrients with the green bean diet. Answer: Well, from what the vet said, you mix 1 cup of green beans with 1 cup of food (I don't remember what food he is on right now- I think it's ProPlan but I could be wrong). The green beans are mostly water, so the dog will get less food but it will fill him up- and he will urinate more because of the extra water. Somehow this will cause him to at least stop gaining weight or loose weight- someone else may be able to explain it better. Answer: Find out exactly what your dog is eating. I think ProPlan is made by Purina? I would switch to a high quality diet to start. Yes, I am a food snob but after reading about what goes into diets such as Science Diet, Iams, Purina, etc., there is no way I would feed my dog any of those diets. What breed is your dog? Answer: He's a basset hound. Thanks for the info on the diet. Do you have any suggestions about one in particular? We get something called "the dog journal" and it has the dog food black list or something like that... it gave a whole bunch of foods that were supposed to be good- I'll see if we still have it. Answer: Aww, I LOVE Basset Hounds. I belong to a Pit Bull forum and a member on there has done a lot of thorough research on dog food and I really respect her. Here is the thread that will give you more insight on the top five foods: Top Five Foods Candice, the administrator on this forum also has done research on pet foods. There is a sticky about pet nutrition in the General Pet section on this forum. Answer: OMG, someone told me they used this diet on their cat so I tried it with Miss BB. you should have seen the look on her face. She didn't eat for almost 24 hours so I mixed some kibble with it thinking she might get some by accident with the kibble...Nah, she ate around the beans....no way even if she was starving would she eat green beans. I told the person who suggested it to me and she said, well she had a ragdoll cat and they eat anything. To this day we laugh when we make green beans and tease BB to behave or she will be back on the green bean diet Answer: Annie your so mean I've never heard of that diet but I don't think dogs would really like it, would they Answer: Probably not- but- and I'm not sure if this is common with all bassets- he eats everything... so we will give it a try... I'll check out those 2 threads- thanks for the info! Answer: That sounds crazy...but that's just me. Are you feeding rationed meals throughout the day? Have you completely eliminated table scraps? I would definitely suggest a higher quality feed...and maybe a lite formula...if your vet okays it. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
