Dogs and Halloween

Question:
So am I the only one who has a dog that HATES trick or treaters??? she goes NUTS,,she jumps at the windows growling and barking like a maniac

this yr Im suspecting she will be worse since we own our own home she has become VERY protective over it,,,,,,we will not be home Halloween night, I am going to have all of the lights off(except back rooms for the dog) but the people cant see them, and keep all yard lights, etc off,, all blinds shut so hopefully people wont come to my house, ,,crossing fingers and toes

so does your dog hate trick or treaters?

Answer:
I've never had trick or treaters before.. so I'll let you know. I always lived in an apt building that only let the kids come to the lobby only. I always took Montana out for a walk around the neighborhood on that night (only b/c I missed seeing little kids in their costumes) and Montana never barked at them so I think she'll be ok. Koko may get a little freaked out though..
My brother has a Lhasa Apso (the dog from Hell) and Brandy (the dog's name) used to go nuts when the door bell rang so several years ago he brought the dog to my Mom's place in the Country and never took him back. He's much happier and calmer at my parent's place.. but that dog has more issues then just stranger issues.
I think it's fairly common.. strange scary costumes & so many people knocking on the door all night..

Answer:
thats what i figured also Sue, its probably more common than not,,see Sasha might not be as bad here, alot of stuff freaked her out when we lived in town since it was a basement apartment and she couldnt really see out, here she has huge windows to look out and see what/who is actually here,,,,we will soon find out I guess

Answer:
Well, Dante hates anyone that comes to the door. Morpheus loves everyone! But both will be tucked into bed before they come, otherwise I won't be able to open the door and hand out candy. I don't think anyone wants a Rottweiler in their kids candy bag

Answer:
all dogs will be afraid of oddly dressed things walking around my rotti is afraid and therefore we hide out in the house and watch TV and place the car in the garage so we won't get egged.

Answer:
My Zena never used to bark, but lately she does when someone comes to the door. This is new, she litterally never barked before. I'm expecting a loud Holloween with all the knocks at the door.

Anyone know how to stop a dog from barking. She must have been trained not to bark and it's wearing off now, lol. She's 5 and we've had her 3 years now. It seems all her trainings slowly wearing off.

That's not true! A well socialized canine is not. Neither of my dogs are afraid of any people, dressed in whatever. Dante is protective of the home, so he reacts, but it has nothing to do with the costumes. Morpheus could care less what someones wearing, he's convinced snuggles are available from everyone!
