Just call me the Puppy Wrangler
Question: Here I was enjoying a nice quiet late morning and looking out my window. Low and behold, across the street is a great dane mix belonging to my neighbor. I haven't had to wrangle any dogs lately, but I figure it's about time. (He's a bit of an escape artist.) So I went outside and called to him. He gave me the "come get me and play" look, and dashed off behind his house. So I decided to walk over and put him back in his pen. I was greeted by eight six week old puppies!! ALL out of a pen that was wide open! So I start grabbing puppies to put them back and am trying to shove pups in the door, close it, and keep the pups already inside from getting out. No such luck. There is a 3" gap between the door to the pen and the side. DUH. The neighbors had it 'blocked' with a recycling bin. Yeah, real effective. Thankfully my mother came over to see what was taking me so long and went to get some wire cutters and wire. That wasn't going to be enough, so I tromped back into our yard and to our storage building (covered in mud and puppy poo by this point - 30 mins after I just showered.) to get some leftover hardware cloth from making my chin playpen. Thank goodness for small miracles. In the meantime, my mom called our neighbor at work. She was out running errands so they paged her via radio. We set out to wrangle some pups and a non-willing great dane daddy and momma back into the crappy pen. As I was doing so, the neighbor's oldest son came home to help. Of course, by this point, I was nearly done. Stephanie to the rescue (again.). The pen was all muddy so I spread some pine shavings down I had decided not to use with the chins. They had water but it was gross - as soon as the son leaves, I'm going to go give them fresh water. They're well fed and have several tarps over the pen and two small doghouses inside the pen, so there isn't much else I can do - this is the plaza compared to the abuse cases I see at work. *sigh* Eight more puppies to add to the overrun dog population, running around free in the neighborhood to be wrangled by the animal-loving neighbor. Story of my life. Had to share - I knew you guys would appreciate the mental picture of me trying to round up eight dane mix puppies with my hair soaking wet and them chewing on my pant legs and toes! Answer: Isn't it amazing how it always takes a responsible pet owner to take care of the nonresponsible pet owners in the world? Good thing you discovered the Great Dane and was able to rustle up the pups! I swear, people are so darn ignorant! You are a hero! I just hope the owners don't continue to neglect the puppies and the parents again! Answer: Good job Stephanie. Glad someone cared enough to care for the pups. Please don't stop now..give the owner a good swift kick in the Answer: Way to go... Isn't it frustrating trying to keep so many pups in a pen? At work, we get litters of puppies in and just when you get one in two more escape!! All I can do is laugh though...they are so adorable! Answer: A pic for you guys. Answer: Oh, what a sweetie! How could anyone be so negligent is beyond me. I could never leave those sweeties outside to fend for themselves. Answer: You are awesome for saving those dogs... I hope you report the owners.... Answer: There's nothing to report, really. Just the off-leash law but they were still on her property and not on ours. They have food/water/shelter which is all animal control cares about. Answer: Steph, while it's terrible that you had to do that, I did get a chuckle out of picturing you trying to cope with a buncy of puppies and some giant parents And just when I was going to post "Why didn't you take any pictures?", I see this adorable little face staring at me What a cutie pie Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
