electric fencing

Question:
weve had a few people recommend this to us for Sasha that way we can let her out without tying her,,,,,my thing is,,how the heck do you get it around your whole property??? do you have to dig holes and put it all the way around your house?? and does it really work? or is it hurtful to the dog??

also what happens if they run right through the electric part,,,when sasha gets lose she runs FAST,,,I can just picture her running right through it,,Im not sure how it works so thats why im asking,,,

also what happens when it snows?? does it still work under the snow? it would be very costly to do our whole property but it would be nice to let her out without tying her

Answer:
Do you mean invisible fencing or electrical? http://www.invisiblefence.com/index.asp

Answer:
which is the one with the flags?

Answer:
Invisible fencing is what they are talking about.. electric fences are for cows. The electric fencing is under the ground so the dog will not be running thru it.. well, technically she can and possible might. It's not a perfect solution.. I can't tell you how many dogs we get into the shelter as strays that just ran thru it.. sure they may have gotten a shock.. but that's just more reason not to come back into the yard b/c then they'll get shocked again!
What I'm trying to say is.. it's fairly expensive from what I've heard.. and since you have a huge yard it probably would be.. and it's not foolproof.. depends on the dog in question.

Answer:
lol maybe Ill get a cow then,,,,,jk,,id rather a horse

Ive been doing some research and Ive come to the conclusion that its definately not a good thing for Sasha

Answer:
How long is your tie out? I know some people will attach a tow line to their clothes line so they can run the whole length of the yard and can't get tangled on anything.. maybe you could try that?

We used to do that with our dogs.

Answer:
well she has 2 tie outs,,,the one she uses for just going to potty is about 15 ft,,,,then she has one tied to the satallite pole thats about 50 ft,,,she can run all in behnd the house,,,she can reach the house and go all of the way back to the shed,,,so she gets lots of exercise, plus I walk her on Craigs days off,,

In the summer when we take the kids to the park, we take her to,,,the park is at a recreation center but nobody uses the rink part anymore,,its just a big fenced in oval shape,,,,so we take her and Craig and her go in there and we let her off leash and she can run and run and run,,,,

but it would be nice to just open the door and let her go potty ,,,,wishful thnking

Answer:
I didn't know it when I first got my dog, but she doesn't leave the house. I'm not even quite sure when I realized that she wouldn't.....do people train their dogs not to leave or do some dogs just not want to leave their home?

Answer:
I dont know but Sasha definately missed that memo if one was sent

she goes around the neighborhood and plays with all of the other doggies,,lol we have one next door across the street and she goes to him everytime she gets off,,,hes tied 24/7 so I think she thinks he needs a buddy,,,,,,a couple of weeks he broke his tie out and he came to my house,,,,,

my dad always trained our dogs to stay in the yard but he beat them to do it,,which i wont do,,Craigs dads the same and he gets mad that we havent trained sasha t stay in the yard,,he says shes a stupid dog,,,etc etc,,,,but i refuse to beat her to stay in the yard
