Neighbors HOWLING dog is driving me CRAZY
Question: Okay for the last WEEK the neighbors outside dog is howling like CRAZY ALL DAY LONG EVERYDAY now he dosent do it when there home and as far as outside dog goes he's got it made. They play with him every night, he has a nice shelter and is on a cable run system inside a dog kennel type thing and has a nice dog house, gets loads of attention when there home and is all around a good dog EXCEPT this barking/howling and its driving me NUTS. I dont know WHAT to do about it and I dont want to have to keep all my doors/windows closed all the rest of the summer. The husbands not an animal person so I know if I complain to him he might make it hard on the wife/kids about keeping the dog and I HATE to have that happen as he's the most spoiled outdoor dog ive ever seen but the noise is enough to drive me NUTS. I understand dogs bark/howl and my dog even does it on occasion but I imediatly make him come inside if he starts it and that stops him and I know that no ones home during the day to prevent it from happening but its driving me CRAZY Any ideas what I should do here? Answer: I'd talk to them... if they aren't home when it's happening then they probably aren't aware that their dog is doing it. If it was my dog that was disturbing the neighbours, I'd want to know about it so I could solve the problem. Answer: Sue I dont know how they will solve the problem though, any ideas? As the dog going inside is not an option for them, hubby wont allow it. And the dogs a well behaved USUALLY and the families great so I also dont want to offend them either and since im the only one home during the day on our street im the only one he's bugging and I dont want to seem like some annoying neighbor either as they didnt complain the day grizzly was stuck outside during a bday party for the kids and barked the whole two hours (thats a raretly that hes EVER out like that usually twice a year ONLY both kids parties as I dont trust the kids that come to respect him and if I put im in another room he procedees to pee all over everything as revenge lol). Answer: If coming in the house is impossible... maybe they could get a Citronella collar for him. Or they could teach him a "Quiet" command and then when he starts barking, you could go outside and tell him to be quiet. (He needs to learn the command first though or you could yell & yell and he'll just look at you like you have 2 heads!) Answer: I hope you can work with your neighbours on this, Christy. I agree with Su, if my dogs were driving my neighbours crazy I'd like to know and have a chance to fix the problem too! So far my neighbours have been surprised that I even have dogs 'cos they are so quiet when I am not at home, I guess I am lucky Just ask them if they are aware of it and discuss it without being confrontational and they'll probably fix the problem. Good luck! Answer: I will talk to her tomorrow if he does it again, im thinking that maybe its the change to his routine (with kids going back to school and all) as I know Grizzly whines as soon as the school year starts But Im not the type ill push it and I wont turn them in to anyone either as they are good people, they treat the dog well, and when home he's always getting attention. The let him off lead and play wtih him in the yard, and he's learning to stay in there yard but on occasion he comes to visit but there always right beind him and he is a very friendly dog. Answer: When people refuse to let their dog in the house, there's usually a reason... such as the dog isn't house trained or he has separation anxiety and chews the furniture and basically wrecks the place when the owner leaves... IF that's the reason, then they haven't dealt with the separation problem because he's still upset when they leave. I'd suggest crate training as it relaxes them and makes them feel safe while their family isn't there. Answer: Its the Husband says NO animals in the house is the reason the dog dosent get to go in the house. They have had him all that long about a year now and I do have to say they are training him, as they are out doing training with him every evening. Sit, stay, down, heal, and that so I do have to give them credit he's not an outside dog thats jsut tied out and ignored. And I deal with Grizzly whinning when the kids leave every year, about 3 days to a week he whines at the door for them even though im here. And he USUALLY dosent howl like this its just been this last week that he's been doing it. Answer: Any updates, Christy? Answer: sounds to me like a case of speration anxiety for sure.
