Here we go again, this time to Napanee

Question:
Josh has to deliver more doors this Saturday, this time to Napanee which is almost to Kingston, so it's going to be a long Saturday. I'm thinking of bringing the girls again since we are taking them to Doggie Day Afternoon and we can leave directly from there. I have more time to plan and pack for this trip though so it should go a lot smoother than last Saturday (didn't bring a cooler so the cheese was melting and the smoked trout was swimming in water from melted ice cubes and Josh forgot this fishing stuff). So it will be a nice day trip for us and the girls, we are planning to get some cheese curds, smoked and fresh trout and do some fishing, Josh bought the licenses today.
Has anyone done a 3hr road trip with their dogs? Any advice on a dog that tends to barf? Keesha only barfed once then she was perfectly fine. And this time I won't forget the poop bags, lol! (had to use paper towels the last time) Also, any recommendations for places to stop? I'm going west of Toronto if that helps

Answer:
I have read that keeping them in their kennels usually helps with road sickness. It prevents them from really looking out the window. My cats went on frequent 2 hour trips when I was still at school and once they got comfortable in their kennels, they slept the rest of the way. Every summer my dog does at least one 7 hour trip and he is fine. We stop every couple hours at a roadside rest area to let him stretch, get a drink and pee.

Answer:
My sister gets carsick a lot and she always says she feels better when she can see out the window, but when she looks towards the floor of the car or reading a book she gets nauseous. So I always thought it would be better for them to see out the window.
I don't have a crate for them, Josh drives a cargo van, it only has two seats up front and a big space in between the seats which is where we lay blankets for the girls to sleep on. I will try to keep them from jumping onto my lap to look out the window, I hope that helps poor Keesha.

Answer:
Hmmm, I guess it just depends on the person/animal. I can't remember where I read that but I also was worried about how the cats would handle the ride...especially with Max's weak stomach. My dog travels without a crate as well. We used to have a van so he'd just stretch out in the aisle. Now he just sprawls across the back seat of the SUV.

Maybe Keesha will get better each time we take her
Last Saturday, she had her head on my arm and I could feel her swallowing like she was trying to keep vomit down and I know she felt SO MUCH better after barfing I'm taking wet naps with me this time too! Hopefully this time we will get pictures of them pouncing on frogs at the trout pond!
