Whoa. That's heavy. I usually think of that sort of thing in other places- not here, but sadly I found out it wasn't true.

By the way, the Humane Society worker who shot and killed the two stray pitbulls we were trying to help was asked to resign. That's pretty much all that happened- because of Alabama state laws- the worst he could get is a $1000 fine- and even that is not going to happen becuase of some loophole about minor witnesses not being able to sign certain types of complaints. These dogs got no justice- and the people who abused and neglected them and dumped them will never be found and punished.

I was a little impressed that some counties in our state are trying to make laws a little more fair to the dog. They are passing restrictions not far from us against dogs being kept on chains, making harsh training collars illegal, requirement of shorter leashes, and punishing people for owning aggressive dogs. It is not ideal, and I suspect there are a lot of ways that it can be twisted, but they have at least gotten the message that it's politically more savvy to try to focus on protecting the animal instead of punishing it.
