Need some help
Question: I was just researching something about Lil on the internet. I was told she was a beagle/poodle mix when I got her, but am told by the vet she looks like a beagle/cocker spaniel, and now I have been looking at pictures on the internet and she looks nothing like a beagle/cocker spaniel and looks more like a beagle/terrier. I am so confused as to what she is. Can someone please help me out maybe by posting pics of the different mixes for me? I have looked and can't find many pictures for myself. Here is what Lil looks like. Answer: She reminds me of a PBGV mix.. (Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen) Does she have a long body? I would think she has cocker spaniel in her (I can see it with her paws especially) but beagle?? I don't see hound in her unless she has the hound characteristics.. Answer: Her large face and nose and wide head and wide set eyes is very PBGV- and depending on her size, feet, tail, etc- could be spaniel, could be other small curly-haired breeds. Hard to say. Answer: Her mom was a beagle and I got to meet her so she definatley is half beagle. When she is shaved she looks beagley, but when she is long like in the above pic, she looks like cocker spaniel, even though the vet says no, I am at a loss, I really think it may be poodle because it is curly hair when it is grown long. And yes Suzoo she definatly has the hound characteristics always sniffing out everything. Thanks for your help, I'll go find a pic of the PBGV and have a look. Answer: Ok, she looks like a PBGV except that she has really long legs, also her brother looked like a miniature black lab, we were going to take him instead of Lil, but Lil was the most active. Is it possible to have a beagle/PBGV? Answer: It's hard to tell size from the pic you posted.. thats why I asked about body length. I didn't know that you met the mother.. Don't the owners of the beagle know who they bred their dog to? Answer: No, they don't have a clue, the mother conceived in Newfoundland so I really have no way of finding out as I think the breeders moved back there last year, they said the only dog they know of that it could have been was a poodle, Lil's mother was an escapee in heat and like a naughty girl got herself pregnant by accident. Yes I know its irresponsible of them and everything but we wanted a puppy and they were near free for us, so we went ahead, either that or Lil could have ended up at the Humane Society, but anyways, I really think the dad could have been a PBGV, my fiance thinks so too. In all honesty I think for the next dog we do get I would highly consider a PBGV, but that won't be for many many years. Thanks again for any and all help Suzoo, I know you work at a shelter so you probably get all kinds of mixed dogs in. Answer: Here is a pic I found of a PBGV on google, And here is a picture of Lil. They do look a like for sure, I think even more so if I let Lil's fur grow out more. Here is one of her fully shaven. Answer: Yes, a good percentage of the dogs we get are mixed breeds and since I work in the Lost & Found Dept, it is I who decides what breeds to book the dog in as. So I'm very used to this kind of thing. We have had several PBGVs at the shelter in the last few years and that's the first breed that popped into my mind. Answer: Either way Lil is the best behaved dog I have ever known and I'm not even really being biased, she listens very well and doesn't cause any trouble. It's weird not knowing what she is though, do you think I could get a DNA test done on her? Or is there no way to really tell at all? Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
