12 yr old losing bladder

Question:
My 12 yr old pound puppy, 'Nala', doesn't seem to be able to hold her bladder when she's laying down anymore.. well, I believe the urine just dribbles and she doesn't even realize it. Unfortunately I'm not in the position right now to take her to the vets, (my Schnauzer was nearly killed Monday night by a Rottweiler and I have a little vet bill there right now..he's going to be fine.. but that's a whole other story.) so I found this forum in hopes of finding out if I can help her on my own. Help!! I feel so bad for her. Hubby and even my daughters feel it's time to let her go to heaven but I want to make the right decision and make sure I've done what I could within my means.. I hope this sounds o'kay... it's been a crazy week and I have a million things going on..... any suggestions are already appreciated more than I can tell you...
Thanks.... Cathy

Answer:
Unfortunately, only your vet can tell you if there is a medical problem underlying this condition. Is there anyway that you can make payments, borrow money, etc?

Other than that, it is not uncommon for older dogs to lose bladder control. My suggestion would be to use doggie diapers. Daba Doo makes all different shapes and sizes. You might want to check eBay for a deal...otherwise, your local pet store should have something.

Answer:
Candice suggested doggy diapers which work well. Our dog had to have a bladder operation as bladder infection treatments were not working and she was only 1 when we rescued her so the operation was a option. I hope something works out for you. Keep us updated.
