Ivomec Inj.

Question:
Does anyone have any experience with Ivomec Inj. for your dog? It is used for treating Mange, given through a syringe and not licensed for dogs yet.

Answer:
Harley was put on Ivermectin for demodectic mange right after I got her from AC&C at four months old. Hers was an oral, not injection, although that might be preferred. Apparently the stuff tastes HORRIBLE!

I pretty much had to wrestle her into a corner so I could stick the syringe (sans needle of course) in the corner of her mouth. I'm lucky she was such a peach, considering here's this dog who's just met me and I'm cramming nasty tasting stuff in her mouth every morning!

Thankfully the stuff works....though she had to do two cycles on it before we kicked off the mange completely.

Answer:
Oh, and the stuff they gave Harley was apparently for cows and sheep. There's also a horse version, but that was much more expensive.

Answer:
Living on a farm, we always had a bottle of Ivomec in the fridge.

I know that it can be used on dogs but I'm really not sure about the dosage. Obviously less than for cows or sheep.

It's not licensed for dogs or anything, but it's safe (I was told this by a country vet) and apparently works well and is way cheaper than the alternative.

Answer:
Wormers have killed horses being used incorrectly so please proceed with the directions of a veterinary to make sure that dosage is not lethal to an already compromised immune system.

Answer:
Oh, no worries. The vet has pre-filled syringes for me for the next 3 weeks. I need to give this to my dogs once a week for 4 weeks (first dose was tonight). I was just a little concerned about it not actually being for dogs but I went to two vets today and they both use it. I feel better as well knowing that some of you have used it as well.

Thanks

Answer:
I hope it works well for your dog!

Answer:
I had taken dog to vet with mange,. they incorrectly had my prescription written out to give 10CC per day for my 40 lb dog and she puked it out and was overdosed. She stumbled into things, blindness and disoriented. She seems okay now but has anybody else had their dog overdose on this and does it have any future repercussions? The vet wants to recheck her and have me sign something (I am sure to release them from any lawsuits). I am not sure what to do. I don't want to sue but I don't want to end up down the road paying for a pile of vet visits because of his mistake. Any suggestions?Oh and by the way that was 3 days ago. I see the vet again in 2 days. It was not him but someone who filled in for him.
