Border Collie Weight Loss

Question:
Hi
Can anyone help me, my Border Collie is 10 years old, Coat in very good condition has lost a lot od weight. She is eating the same as she always had infact her appitite has increased. At night she becomes very unsettled and is constantly moving from corner to corner in the room. She also is drinking more water than normal and has started to urinate in the house, which is totally out of character for her.
I hope someone can help me as I am particularly worried about the weight loss.

Answer:
I would worry too! Time for a work up at your vet....

Answer:
Hi there

The exact same thing happened to me in April with my 10 year old Australian Shepherd/Collie mix named Kailey. She was doing the exact thing - had started peeing in the house in the night and she had never done this before in 9 years!! Her appitite also increased and her weight dropped.

I took her to the vets and told them about it - they did some tests and found she was diabetic.

I would take her to the vet quickly - I waited about a week and a half because I thought maybe it would stop and they said if I hadn't brought her in when I did it might have been worse because she was literally starving to death.

I don't know if you've had diabetic pets before .. when I first found out I was a mess but it actually wasn't so bad. The vet showed me how to properly give her the insulin injection and she didn't even seem to notice!

Hope that helps a bit ... and if she is diabetic and you have any more questions or need to talk I know what you're going through and I'd love to try to help

Answer:
I agree - time for a vet visit and blood work-up. It could also be thyroid which can be easily treated with pills. Regardless of what it is, the earlier you get a diagnosis, the easier to treat and less damage to your faithful companion.
