Question:
Hey guys.

Our vet that we normally go to to neuter our cats is away for several months, and she always gave us a discounted price, so I'm wondering, how much does it cost to neuter a cat at a "regular" vet? Kind of a silly question but Scooter needs to be snipped soon and I need to budget.

Is there a locum taking over while your vet is gone? The staff\records there would show the price you are usually charged.

I am not sure where you are in TO, but the vet I used when I in the east end was very reasonably priced. PM me if this would help

I looked up the reciept for my Vinnie who is 2 1/2 yrs old,his neutering at 7 months was $123 alltogether with pre-and after exam.

Wow! Prices up north are steep! A feline neuter certificate from the county Humane Society where I live is $20. "Operation Cat-Nip", at the University of Florida is cheaper...free. Most vets charge $30 to $40 to snip a male, $50 to $60 for a female spay. HS certificate for spay is $30. And then we have the county "Neuter Commuter", a vet hospital bus that travels to different parts of the county each week. Reservations are needed way in advance.
Dogs- $75, includes microchip, spay/neuter, RV & HW test.

Cats- $65, includes microchip, spay/neuter, RV & FELV/FIV test.

Prices are suppose to go up this year.

I'll refrain from posting what the actual cost is for a vet to neuter a male cat, (most of the time, a tech does it anyway).

Our longtime vet kept getting higher and higher too, to the point of teeth cleaning over $300 and requiring us to sign an "estimate" in advance. Only other place that required that was the auto repair shop. This was about 10 years ago. I asked around my doggie friends what their vets charged. I won't sacrifice quality of care! I ended up changing vets, although I have to go clear across town now, but the charge was half and I'm pleased to say the vet did all the preliminary bloodwork the day before that is required for an older dog. He used a lighter anesthesia, my dog wasn't as groggy when I picked him up, and miracle of miracles, my dog stopped needing any teeth to be pulled during the cleaning. Best of all, my dog seemed to like everyone there whenever I had to take him in - no more trembling in the waiting room! By the way, that new vet is the same one who cared for Corky's broken leg and he doesn't so much as limp now. And, he's the one who stitched up Den-Den's throat last July, with the tiniest scar barely showing now. And the old vet sold his practice a year after we switched and retired.

Glasslass,of course quality-care comes first,but I also do not want to be taken for a ride I do not get a sense of caring when I see my current vets(who bought my long-time vets practise)and now there is 3 instead of the one,with prices going up every time I go there.I suppose I am now paying the wages for 3 vets instead of the one,hence the skyrocketing increases

$300.00!!....Geez...you can have a dental/teeth cleaning done way less expensive here! (Another procedure most tech's do anyways).

Whan I had Akeija's spay and teeth cleaning done 13 years ago it cost me over $500. I think I paid for my vets remodel of his office.

The vet I take my animals to charges $35 to neuter a cat & $65 to spay... It cost me $63 all together when I got Chauncey neutered... That included neutering, rabies vac. & cleaning his ears & getting ear mite medicine... & something else that I can't seem to remember. I do live in a rural area though, & have to drive about 30 mins. to see the vet, but goodness! I can't imagine having to pay that much! I wouldn't be able to afford animals in Canada!

You are lucky!! My vet says the cats need their teeth cleaned every year,but at $900+for three cats,that is not going to happen...
I'll keep an eye on their teeth and gums and have it done according to needs.

I'm with you Chico2, with 5 cats that would run me $1500.00+ just for a cleaning!!!! I do use an infant toothbrush (the one you put on your finger, with soft bristles) and only take them if necessary.
5 cats could definately bankrupt me, but I wouldn't give them up for anything !!!!!
