Lap dog?

Question:
Do any of you with bigger dogs find that your dog likes to sit in your lap?

Simon, my newest, weighed 30 or so when he had his checkup in November. I think he has gained since then, maybe 35-37 lbs now. He likes to sit in our laps on occasion. When I am at the computer in my nice comfy computer chair with arms, he paws at me from the couch until I roll over to him so he can climb on. He doesn't stay very long, but seems so contented for a few minutes.

It is so sweet, I think he just needs a little one-on-one company.

I am attaching a photo of how it looks when he does it. This one was taken before he started asking to sit on my lap as his own idea.

Answer:
Jesse is about 65 pounds and definitely thinks she's a lap dog. In fact, she thinks she is a "body" dog. She likes to lay on top of you as you are laying down and gives unconditional and obsessive kisses as she is there. She loves to give her daddy "hugs". If he is on the recliner she crawls up on his lap and wraps her paws around his neck.

Answer:
I use to have a 120lb couch potato, my hubby use to let him sleep with us sometimes when he was young. I soon stopped that it was like having another adult in bed with us

Jemma's our little kitty... She's 60lbs but she thinks she is as light and limber as a cat. If there's no room on the couch, she'll climb on top of everybody.

Answer:
When Ceili gets 'the scaredeez" she climbs all over me. The first time we took the subway she leapt onto my lap, wouldn't budge for love nor money, shed like crazy and drooled all down my front for a half hour. Her sister Bridie on the other hand, thought she had been christened The Welcoming Committee and insisted on greeting everyone (whether they wanted to be greeted or not) by flinging herself onto her back at their feet, splaying her legs wide open, giving them one of her over-the-shoulder, come-hither looks, pawing the air towards them "Love my belly, come on love love love my belly". Tis a good thing I don't embarrass easily.

Thanks all, I am glad I am not the only one. If I am on the couch with some room, the other two will sqeeze over, but Simon likes to be in the chair with me. (He does it to my roomie too!).

Answer:
We had a Bullterrier who used to do that. As soon as I would sit outside on the grass, he would be on top of me. A very heavy muscular lap dog!

I figured he does that, because as a puppy I would hold him on my lap...and as he grew big and strong, he still did!

I have a 50- 60 lb. lap dog too! He loves to lay right on you also when you sleep on the couch. He is so affectionate. Tries to get right in between me and hubby whether or not he can fit.

Our fault though I love big lap dogs. Its like a big warm, soft teddy bear that kisses. Ahh how I wish i was on the couch right now with him rather then at work!

I used to have a dog (mutt , possibly pit/lab cross) named Bo. He would love to cuddle anyone that sits on the couch as long as its his family. If not he will lay beside you and strech and try to push you off. He will then kick you consistenly till you move. My sister law was telling us how that is her first memory of that dog. She couldn't believe that he was really trying to get her off until he didnt stop and she gave up. He was my sweet baby. Still miss him.

Emma (105 lbs) and Gabby (70 lbs) are both lap dogs. Emma either sits on the couch next to me with her butt on and front paws on the ground, or leans on me when I pet her. Sometimes she lays next to me on the couch and puts her head in my lap. Gabby is always ready to hop on the couch and lay on me. Never a problem unless they both want up at the same time. Not much of me left to see!

The Doberman we had started out sitting on the couch that way-but my mother had a "no dogs on the couch" rule. So Rusty would come along and plunk her butt down on your knee, instead. Well, she wasn't technically on the couch that way.
My SIL's pittbull and Rotti were total lap dogs. The first time my husband slept on her couch while visiting, he woke up thinking he was paralyzed. Nope-just 200lbs of dog laying on his legs! And that is where they slept every time he visited.
Our new babies aren't complete lap dogs, but I often walk into the living room to see both dogs on the couch with hubby, heads on his knees. Don't know how we will all fit when they are 100lbs apiece .

My new rescue is 103 pounds (I'm 95!) and he will fall asleep (half of him) on me when I get in bed. It's like a big blanket that won't let you move.As for the couch,I have to take a spot before they do and then not move or else they will spread and I will be sitting on the floor!Wouldn't have it any other way.
