How much should a kitten sleep?
Question: My new kitten has been sleeping soooo much and I was wondering how much sleep is normal? She is eating a lot, and when she is up she is quite playful and healthy acting, but she's hardly ever up! For example, I woke up this morning at 8am and she was awake, I played with her until maybe 10am or so and she has been sleeping ever since (almost 8 hours now!). I have no idea how old she is but I'm guessing about 8-9 weeks. Does anyone know how much a kitten of this age is expected to sleep? She's going to the vet Tuesday for her first vaccine and I will ask about it then (and see about getting her tested for or on worm medication cuz her belly's kinda big) but I need some reassurance in the meantime, I tend to worry about these things way too much Answer: Kittens will sleep about 16 or more hours a day. They are most active during the night. The important thing is that when she IS awake, that she is lively, playful, bright eyed and has good appetite. If her belly is big she probably has a tapeworm. It's good you're getting it treated as a lot of worms are dangerous for little kittens. Answer: Ok that's good to hear. She got up about 10 mins after I posted this, ate some more food, and now she is back asleep again. She is happliy asleep though and purrs whenever I pet her so it’s not like she seems sick. Maybe just the stress of moving homes and she was fairly lively yesterday so she might just need a day of rest. I’m so paranoid though with a new animal whose habits I don’t know yet, it’s hard to tell what’s normal. Thanks for the reassurance! Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
