Dogs Breeding

Question:
My sister-in-law and her neighbors dog hooked up. Her question to me is how many times should she let them hook up now because her neighbor and her have decided that they would both like to have puppies. Just so everyone noes I did tell her that I thought she should get her spayed right away but it went on def ears so please no lectures just an honest answer please. The dogs are pure breed pom and a pure breed peke. I ve herd a lot of mixed thoughts some say 3 to 4 times some say 2 to 3 times.

Answer:
0 times. yes, that's ZERO times.

this is a VERY pro spay/neuter board, I doubt you're going to get the responses you're looking for. however, I'm glad you feel the same about the fact that your SIL's dog should be spayed. Good luck, I hope she listens to reason soon.

I agree.

here we go again, I say if they don't understand how to breed dogs they shouldn't be doing it!

Answer:
run to the vet for the Morning -After pill!!! i'm not kidding. who needs more mutts to home? sigh :(

Answer:
who needs more mutts to home?
Amen to that.

Why breed more mutts when the shelters are packed with them and they being killed every single day?

How unethical.

Answer:
Hmm perhaps call your local humane society, they should be able to set you straight with breeding advice!!They are lounging around waiting for the phone to ring anyways...its not like they are overloaded or overworked all the world is the colour pink ---get real!!!!! Give it up if you truly love and respect your dogs you will not breed them.

Who needs balls when you have a great bone do the right thing ;please spay and neuter your pets.

Also, is your mutt breeding ("I want puppies and I don't give a damn about anything else"!) friend aware of the host of genetic problems present in Pekes and Poms, and have the dogs been tested and cleared of all of these? Does this person even know about this?:

Pekes can be subject to:
Autoimmune Hemolytic, Anemia, Canine Microphthalmia, Cataract, Chronic Superficial Keratitis, Distichiasis, Entropion, Hypoplasia of Dens (odontoid process), Inguinal Hernia, Intervertebral Disc Disease, Keratitis Sicca, Lacrimal Duct Atresia, Lens Luxation, Pigmentary Keratitis, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Sertoli Cell Tumor, Short Skull, Thrombocytopenia, Ulcerative Keratitis, Umbilical Hernia.

Badly bred Poms can be subject to:
congenital heart defects (patent ductus arteriosus); patellar luxation; eye disorders (progressive retinal atrophy and entropion); tracheal collapse; and low blood sugar in very small Poms.

She might want to consider the expense and trouble of pumping out a litter who has even a few of these congenital defects.

And why are you trying to help your friend when you don't approve? Obviously if she's asking you how many times they need to "hook up" she is totally clueless about breeding and all that it entails.
Pure bred Peke + purebred Pom = Mutts.

Not to mention that Petfinder alone lists 1,000 Poms, Pekes and mixes of the two.

Thread closed. As stated above and in the forum rules, this forum is very pro-spay/neuter. The advice is of that ilk. Should this thread be left open, the replies will be much of the same.
