ear mites
Question: hello everyone, I am searching for a natural remedy for ear mites. Can you help? Answer: I have used mineral oil and it seems to lessen the itching, but I'm sure the mites are still there. Badger recommended Revolution. It takes care of ear mites as well as other parasites including worms. (not tape worms tho.) As soon as my vet gets it in, I will let you know how it works. Answer: I've used this stuff for ear problems in dogs but never cats so I don't know if it would be safe for them as well. It's called the blue stuff or the purple stuff. It's on a lot of different web sites. http://www.dogbiz.com/faq-ear-infections.htm Answer: Although it is nice to find natural remedies for many problems in our pets I dounbt you will find one that is more effective and cheaper than getting it treated at your vet. Ear mites are what we call scabies in human terms. It is a zoonotic parasite meaning you CAN catch it although most are host specific. They are transmitted by mechanical transfer. There are two kinds of mites in a pet. Sarcoptic (live under the skin) and Demodectic (like externally on the skin). Have you had is diagnosed yet? In order to do this a skin scraping is usually necessary then looking at it microscopically. Sometimes the vet will do a fecal as some pets lick at their skin and ingest the parasite. the entire life cycle takes 9-17 days so you would have to treat for a lot lonnger if you went homeopathic. In order to find a homeopathic remedy you will: 1. Have to wait a long period of time for it to take affect as opposed to standard methods (going to your vet) 2. Ensure that it cannot be transmitted to you or other animals if you have them (which is almost impossible) 3. Find out what type you have 4. Groom your pet a lot after treatment ($$$$) they have medicated shampoos for parasites If you find one out there be sure to let me know, I would love to find out info on it! Answer: I've used yellowdock in oil but it's very slow working. I ended up just going to the vet afterall. Couldn't stand the poor cats scratching. Answer: We know of one instance in a cat that neurological damage occurred prolonged lack of treatment of earmites.. I would much rather put Ivomec in the ears to kill the mites. It's the most effective and the vet's have it readily available. Answer: Alliekat, Sorry to contradict you but there are more than 2 kinds of mites in pets. And earmites in dogs are usually Otodectes. Here's a great link about the different types of mites that cause mange in dogs and cats http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/in...htm&word=mange Answer: I like Dr. Pitcairn's natural health book.. for ear mites...he's got great easy recipes with herbe...I'll see if I can find my book, or look in the library Dr. Pitcairns complete guide to Natural Health for Dogs and cats Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
