Getting a male dog done

Question:
My friend just adopted a male dog from someone that was moving and couldn't take the dog. The dog is approximately 6 months old. Can you tell me how old the dog must be before he can be neutered? Is there any signs that she should look for? She heard that you have to wait for the testicles to descend. It was easy with my dog, she was a year old and I went and had her spayed right away. Thank you.

Answer:
Blaze was neutered at 6mths.... each Vet has their own thought. Maybe you should check with the Vet that you and your friend plan on having to the neuter. Jordie was one as we waited for his one to drop.

Answer:
6 months of age is usually the norm. I had my boy done right at 6 months. The sooner the better!

Answer:
My vet waits until the dog is 6 months. However, many vets will perform the surgery younger.

Answer:
I was told as soon as thier (second) canine teeth start to show which is probably when they are six months.

Answer:
My vet said usually anywhere after 5 months depending on the dog. She also said that sometimes, if you neuter a male before he lifts his leg to pee, he may never lift it which in my books is a good thing.

Answer:
Thank you for your replies. I think that she'll call the vet. It may take a month or more to get an appointment anyways. Chip doesn't go outside without someone with him and our dog is the closest female around so I don't think there will be any problems.

LOL about the dog lifting his leg to pee. My brother's Chinese Pug lifts his leg so high, it's just hilarious.
