15 year old cat throwing up...
Question: I noticed the family cat has not been eating as much lately and now is throwing up. She is constantly searching for me and then just stares at me with those big round eyes. She has been eating Chef's Blend for several years along with the small cans of cat food Fancy Feast. Normally she eats the fancy feast in the morning and then likes to munch on the Chef's Blend throughout the rest of the day. Any suggestions for cat food for an older cat? Answer: Given her age, I would take her to the vet, to make sure there's nothing wrong. Perhaps the vet could also recommend any diet changes. Answer: That is an option. However, I've never had a pet that liked vet food and no matter what the vet finds I'll still need to feed the cat something. I understand that what I feed the cat may depend on what the vet finds but I don't want to be in a position where I buy food from the vet that the cat won't eat. Answer: I feed my two cats (who are 10 and 2 years old) Innova or Natural Balance, they like them both. Neither one has any corn, which less expensive food has alot of and which many cats have a hard time digesting. There are also a number of brands made specially for cats with sensitive stomachs or for older cats who may have chronic problems. All of these are more expensive than grocery brands but I think it's worth it and they end up eating less because it has more nutrients, at least that's my theory.. The place where I buy my supplies gives out small samples so you can try them out without forking over alot of money and having the cat turn up his nose. Anything you try should be mixed with his regular food initially and then slowly increase the proportion of the new stuff. By the way, if she is constantly looking for you and this is a new behaviour, she is definitely trying to tell you something. I wouldn't waste any time getting her to a vet. My sister's beloved cat drank some anti-freeze and then spent three days in her bathroom, which he had never done before. He died. Years later, she still cries about it, that she didn't 'hear' him. Don't want to freak you out, it could be something quite fixable. Answer: Thanks for the leads! Answer: Please come back and tell us how it all goes. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
