Did anyone else see this ?

Question:
Last night on Animal Planet the show America`s Funniest Animals was on and I caught one segment that I thought was ANYTHING but FUNNY.
There was a tiny poodle with a rawhide chew and someone with the camera was trying to take it from the dog. That little dog was violent! It came at the person biting and growling and ready to attack and the part that disturbed me was that somehow it was hilarious and needed to be shown on TV with a chance to win money.
Is it just me or is that not the most ridiculous thing anyone has ever heard? Why is it when a toy poodle or small dog does this it is considered funny and cute and acceptable? Hell if that is funny then why is it not equally funny when a pitty, rotti, or other big dog does the same thing?
It made me so angry that I am writing to the show to let them know that I found that anything but funny and strongly suggest that they not air such clips as they promote acceptance of this behavior. I am going to ask them if it would have been as funny had it been a large breed dog. Hopefully it will be a wake up call to them.

Answer:
That's not the first time. They have aired numerous "funny" clips like that. I tend not to watch Animal Planet anymore...

Answer:
Not funny at all could you imagine if Angel or Buddy acted like that they would be considered vicious and if it was a pit or an staff they would be making the headlines. How irresponsible

Answer:
Animal Planet makes me sick and I never watch it. Yeah, why is cute or funny when small dogs bite or attack people? Even a toy poodle could do serious damage to a toddler.

I gave up watching it when I heard numerous outrageous references to pit bulls:
"Killer bees are the pit bulls of the insect world"(!) and "Tasmanian Devils are the pit bulls of the marsupial world". Very nice and how educated is that??

The newest show "Who Gets the Dog" is just horrible. I did try to watch it. I saw a pit mix puppy shuffled around to 3 different homes, while the potential adopters were given "fun" tasks like "you have to make her chase her tail". These two guys did all kinds of things to make her do it, until she was confused and uncertain at these strangers grabbing her tail, tying strings on it, etc.

She was then brought into these people's house to meet their dog while trainers and behaviorists allowed this. ANYONE knows you do NOT lock up the resident dog and let it out to find a strange dog standing in it's territory. The JRT that was brought out promptly attacked this poor puppy. All very nice, but I guess that's entertainment!!

Doguelover - no use writing to Animal Planet. You must write to the sponsors as they are the only ones who will listen and tell them you will no longer use their products. Money is the bottom line.

I wrote to Animal Planet when an episode of the sickening "That's My Baby" showed an adult couple with kids who thought it was just wonderful to breed their rescued tabby cat with their intact male. Of course I got no reply.

Answer:
That is disgusting where is ASPCA in all this they are suppose to monitor these things on television and movies. Last film I worked on involved a lot of dogs and we had a rep on set almost everyday at some point they would never announce when they were coming and just show up to make sure the animals are all well taken care of. Well needless to say the dogs were incredibley spoiled when you have an office full of animal lovers they never were in there cages except on set.

Answer:
Maybe we should send this clip to Michael Bryant and see what he thinks! He'll probably go "aawww how cute!"

Answer:
I do watch Pet Precinct and Animal Cops on Animal Planet. My girls ( 2 1/2 and 4) watch those shows with me on a regular basis and they have learned a lot about how NOT to treat a pet/animal. It is really sad when a four year old can comprehend what is irresponsible ownership and cruelty better than most adults.
I did catch one episode of Who Gets The Dog and thought it was really ridiculous how they determined where the dog ended up, maybe if they had already been screened and accpeted by the Humane Society the producers should realize that these new potential owners are using the show for their own financial gain. Did you know that they give the new "adopters" $2500.00 to spend on toys and food and such for the dog and they do not pay the adoption fee for the dog? I just do not understand the concept of that. I don`t see the other people on the show who DONT get the dog rushing out to adopt a dog at the shelter when they have to "pay" to have a dog.................. interesting concept though if you think about it. Funny what some people will do for money and for their chance at 15 mins of fame.
I did also see an episode of "That`s My Baby" and was really surprized that it even made it to TV. The episode I saw was a young family with yorkies. They bred a 1 YEAR OLD yorkie and had the kids there to watch the "miracle" of birth. The woman had no idea what she was doing, She took the pups right off the start, she cleaned them off with a towel and tied off the cords with dental floss. She would not let the mom do ANYTHING with the pups, and one puppy ( the last one) took a long time for the mom to deliver so the woman gave her a shot of oxytocin and then basically pulled the pup out of her. The puppy was not breathing so she put him in a bowl of warm water!!!! I tell you I was sitting there thinking WTF??? OH well, her kids sure got to witness the "miracle of birth.............. " What a miracle to watch a still born pup be born WHOO HOOO WHOOPIDEE DOO......... I am sure her 1 year old, 4 year old and 7 year old boys will always remember how wonderful that was.
I do not understand what the purpose of having a show like that is............. it seems to be more of a irresponsible breeders guide than any form of education.
I am also surprized that the ASPCA is not questioning the show......... there is no information about how many of those animals have homes( if any) and the reasons for breeding is just beyond my comprehension.

Answer:
I have watched those funny video shows to where they show babies or children abusing animals and think is halariuos.
One was a baby biting a cats tail, and the cat is screaming in pain, and the stupid parents are laughing and filming it !!
And another of a toddler trying to stuff a kitten in a box, (the toddler is holding the kitten by the fur on it's back)
Don't people believe in teaching children respect for animals ?? seems these people get pets as toys for thier children to abuse however they like, while parents just sit around and laugh, and film it !!!
It's appalling !!

Answer:
So when these kids get bitten or attacked by the animals it will be well deserved and once again the animal will pay the ultimate price for these idiots who do not deserve to own an animal

Answer:
I saw one clip where a cats tail caught fire...very,very funny in to weird people
Last night I watched "Big Cats"about cheetahs, lions and leopards and it was a great show, although I turn away when they catch their meals

Answer:
On digital cable (Rogers) there is a channel that just came out called "PETS" they have dog training shows, agility trials and stuff like that... so far it seems MUCH better then AP. But then I've only watched it a couple times... I love watching agility competitions.

Answer:
I watched one show of America's Funniest People and I got totally disgusted. They had this kid going for a pinata and she wacked a small white dog across the back. Everyone though this was funny. I wanted to reach right through the tv and wack them..It was an accident from the kid but the adults sure laughed.

I'm the same! I love watching Discovery channel -- they often have agility and hunting trials.
They also have great dog-training shows like 'Good Dog' and 'Doggin' It'

I stopped watching animal planet when I saw the show 'Worlds funniest animals' and they had a clip of a Chi getting washed. He was the angriest and most violent dog I've ever seen -- and everyone one was laughing. I kept thinking 'this isn't even a little funny -- this dog needs obedience trainig ASAP!!'

Answer:
The last one I watched had a baby tugging with his mouth on a ball with a small mixed breed tugging across. FIRST off, tug is an aggression promoting game, use at your own risk and KNOW your dog. Secondly, dogs playing this game often let go to grab again quickly to gain a better grip. Often times of course, this results in the dog grabbing a piece of hand, in this case it would have been the CHILD'S FACE!! I was soooo mad, I cringed while they tugged, of course IAMS is a sponsor, oh the winners will receive..blah! Pfft! I hate the show and am getting madder banging the keys as I type.
On a happier note I adore cell dogs ( way to go Tasha sib for passing ), I think the inmates training these shelter rescues is commendable and very rewarding for them as humans who may have made a mistake. Animal cops is a great show (if you don't mind bawling for the better part of an hour!) way to go Ice, the rottie who was so skinny and frozen! The other day they saved 2 rotties from a neglectful owner, both flourished thankfully.
Yes meb999, those are awesome shows too, (um, looking forward to hearing how it goes today for you), the discovery channel has some great stuff.
Yeah, think I'll fire off a few emails to Iams now that I'm riled up .

Answer:
Heinz57,I too watch Cell-dogs every time it's on,it's a great show and a wonderful idea, wish we could do that here too.
I watch Animal Cops,Pet Patrol etc....but not if it is about dog-fighting,that I just cannot watch and those dogs have no happy ending, just death Other than Funniest Animals,Amazing Animal Videos which I don't watch, there are some good shows,Emergency Vet is good, one of the vets is really cute and it's amazing to see what they can do.On the other hand, when nothing can be done for an animal,I sit here and bawl my eyes out....
