15 year old at THS

Question:
I am crying right now, there is a 15 year old hound mix at the THS...how sad to be dumped in your golden years.
I wish there were retirement homes for old abandoned pets where they could live out thier remaining years, in a loving happy home.

There is also a great dane there.

Answer:
That is sad - perhaps he was brought in to be euthanized but the shelter thought otherwise? A friend of mine just acquired a 16-year old lab who was about to be brought in to be PTS. He had been tied his whole life Now he is living with two other dogs and three cats and has perked up a whole lot. It is a joy to see him.

Answer:
That is heartbreaking . What on earth would make someone give up a pet that is near the end of it's lifespan?? I just couldn't imagine.......

Answer:
That is so sad. I agree, there should be somewhere special for them--to honour them for their unconditional love, their undying ability to put you first and their constant need for nothing more than your own happiness and a tummy rub now and then...

Answer:
I just don't understand it either. If there wasn't a really, really valid reason for doing this to that poor animal, then I hope Karma comes back and bites these people in the butt.

Answer:
The owners probably got tired of a "senior" in their home. Being a senior means more special care/needs and more vet fees to pay out. This ultimately results in a test of the human kind--you're either cut out for showing your lifelong companion that you love him/her, or you prove you're not up to the challenge and take the easy way out by dumping him/her.

Unlike humans who take their loved ones to nursing homes or retirement places where they will be taken care of and typically provided for in a far more responsible way than in one's own home, a dog dumped at THS is not guaranteed this same future. It's very sad...
