How do they get dogs off freeways?
Question: A few days ago, I drove by two large dogs on the freeway. They were trotting along the guard rail, right in between six lanes of north-south traffic, right in the middle of a city. Lots of traffic. Certainly not the first time I (or most of us) have seen that....my heart just hurts for the poor dogs. I called 911 immediately with location & direction, they said they already knew and were "taking care" of the situation. I wonder. I know there's people here with police & Humane Societies. How in heck does one get probably very scared dogs off freeways? Especially when there's barely room to pull off and traffic whizzing by at 70mph? Or do they just not actually bother, hope there's no resulting accidents, and have a truck at the ready to pick up dog bodies? :( :( It's so upsetting to see that, and there's really nothing one can safely do except use the cell phone to alert someone. Does anyone know? Answer: Originally Posted by Carina A few days ago, I drove by two large dogs on the freeway. Does anyone know? When I worked for the county animal control we tried to catch stray's as humanely as possible. Sometimes we used RDA, (remote drug administration, dart guns)....we all had shovels in our trucks too. That was a long time ago, now they pick up the bodies and take them to the landfill.
