Hope Awaits Surgery

Question:
Saturday February 12, 2005

As I sat with the Surgeon to speak about Hope's fate, the heart beat of this lean 4lb Yorkshire Terrier Pup with a strong will to live appeared all too evident and I felt as though we had became one for that moment in time. A cherished time!

I was desperate to hide my own emotions. I carried a lump in my throat and tried to maintain a strong demeanour for the sake of Hope's very intense perception. I think I did well, as she still managed to make me smile with her happy tail wags and she hopped up to kiss my nose and left a wee bite scratch mark instead due to her malformed teeth caused by her underdevelopment and very low calcium levels.

I handed over all of her items, made up a Kennel Card for her with all instructions as to her current habits/needs during her stay there. The kind Surgeon's Staff were very appreciative and more than kind. They found a cozy place for her and walked me about showing me their facilities and explaining how they will care for Hope during her stay there. We trust them very much as this Surgeon has helped our Rescue Dogs in the past with great success!!

As Hope watched me leave she started to cry and whimper like a child - a most shrilling sound that anyone could every witness and her barking was with great force for such a small Terrier. The staff consoled her briefly, fed her, and gave her some space to calm down as I walked the longest walk down a hallway to the door. But, in my heart of hearts I knew that Hope was in the best possible hands now, and I just had to pray that she was strong enough.

Thank you for everyone's kind support during Hope's time of need!
