Can hairballs cause loss of voice?

Question:
Hello,

My 14 yr old cat has lost her voice. It started off kind of raspy, and then completely gone. My theory is that she has a hairball. She has no other signs that anything is wrong. She's eating, drinking, and acting pretty normal. Has anyone's else had a cat experience this?

Answer:
Has she vomited hairballs? Hairballs wont make her loose her voice, but could posiibly hurt enough coming up that her throat has become sore.

Wouldn't hurt to have a vet look in her mouth, down her throat to make sure there's nothing "raw" or stuck inside.

Answer:
She hasn't been throwing up any hairballs, but I did take her to the vet on Saturday because she's 14 yrs old and I just wanted to make sure she was healthy. The vet seemed to think she was under some stress (we have a new kitten). Shes had feline herpes in her eyes since she was a baby and its never been a problem, but I guess this stress has triggered it, so she's a little sneezy and has lost her voice. The vet put her on a new medication that is out for the herpes. So far shes been doing OK.
