Dog Tail
Question: My dog is acting weird. He use to wag his tail but yesterday, it just started to hang down. He is sleepy and slugish, not eating his food. He is a Beagle mix, 5 years old male. Answer: All I can say is,your pup is obviously not feeling well and needs to see a vet. Good luck,I hope he recovers!! Answer: Yes, that is where I am heading tommorrow morning. Answer: Hmmm, hope everything's okay. Please let us know what you find out. Answer: I hope all is well at the vet tomorrow. They will probably do a full blood panel, but if they don't offer, ask about it. An emergency vet assumed my dog had a stomach issue and missed a problem that needed immediate attention. Please let us know how your dog is doing. I'll keep a good thought for you. Answer: If the wagger is "broken", there could be something wrong, but add to that the lathargy and lack of appetite, and there is certainly something wrong-- I hope you update us after the vet visit... Answer: My lab sprained her tail when she was younger and had similar symptoms. She couldn't wag it or lift it to go to the washroom and due to the pain was very lethargic. The vet gave her anti-inflamatories and that fixed her up, with the warning it could sprain easily again. She looked so sad when she couldn't wag! Good luck, hopefully it's that simple for you too. Answer: I have been watching for an update - really hoping not a back problem - becoming a serious problem with Beagles. Answer: It sounds like cold tail/swimmer's tail. This is a very painful condition for the dog. It's tail will just hang down and they will not wag it. Because of the pain the dog will often be very lethargic. This condition usually occurs in dogs who do field work or lots of swimming. One of my dogs got it last spring. She had spent the weekend running and swimming. The next day I noticed her tail hanging like it was broken. When I attempted to touch it she yelped in pain. She was also lethargic. It was like this for a few days and within a week she was back to normal. I now limit her activity and give her mandatory rest time. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
