giving dogs garlic pills
Question: I want to start giving my dogs garlic pills to see if that will help w/flea control. I'm wondering if it matters what kind (as in) is the ordorless OK and what about tablet form? Answer: depends, if you dont mind the smell of garlic breath (dogsbreath disgusting anyways, so not an issure really) just give cloves of garlic (whole clove, jsut like a pill, straight down the gullet). i give about 1 per week for a 35kg GSDx and she has no fleas, or if their really bad in summer she does not get as many.. i have been told that garlic can thin the blood so too much can be a problem. ask your vet if you want to give more than once a week. but it is a great idea for a natural flea solution, i have been told for serious infestation of fleas you can make up a garlic juice and spray the dog (from the Molly Dyer home book of remedies), yeah sure it may be a bit stinky but it is natural and better for all involved. have fun Answer: I read that both onions and garlic can cause anemia. Here is a couple of links that I found: http://www.friendshiphospital.com/health/dogfeeding.php http://www.peteducation.com/article....articleid=1030 http://www.jlhweb.net/Boxermap/onions.html The last site says that Garlic is ok in moderation. I don't know if this applies to the pill form or not. I do know that I have seen other sites that recommend it so I don't know. Just thought you would want to check these out before you decide.
