Moving a birds nest???

Question:
We are getting siding on our house (finally!!) and some birds have built a nest right above my front door. If I don't move the nest before the contractor starts work on the siding, I am sure that they will destroy it. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can move the nest without the birds abandoning it? Should I put a birdhouse somewhere close for them?? I haven't heard any baby birds up there, but I'm not positive that there aren't any and I don't want to endanger them. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:
I would suggest doing a google search. There's got to be something out there to help with this situation.

Answer:
Kandy, that is a huge problem and I don't know if the birds would find the nest if you move it.
First off you'll have to check and see if there is any babies,if only eggs, you can move it and hope for the best. But if there are baby-birds,I would put them in a tree near the house,if you have any,the parents might hear the babies tweeting and find them.
A friend of mine in a simular situation, actually moved the nest to a hanging planter right under the eaves and the baby-birds were fine.
Maybe the builders are birdlovers,if it were me,I would ask them to be careful, unless the nest is on the siding.

Answer:
It's early in the season and there probably aren't babies in the nest yet. If you remove the nest and there are eggs in it, the birds will go elsewhere and build a new nest.

Take a look into the nest and see.

Answer:
I'll try to get a ladder and see if I can look into the nest. It is inside the soffet above the front door of my house and the contractor will be replacing all the soffet's and facia's. My husband had cut a hole in the soffet to allow for an electrical cable so the front porch lite would still work and they are coming in and out of that hole, so I don't know how much I'll be able to see. Hopefully there won't be any eggs - I'll keep my fingers crossed! There is a tree in the yard about 6 feet from the front door, but we also have a lot of squirrels that use that tree to get on to the roof of my house. Will a squirrel bother a bird's nest?

Answer:
Squirrels will not take baby-birds,but they will eat eat the eggs.Crows,Bluejays will take baby-birds.

I am hoping there are only eggs or nothing at all yet..my birds here,Mourning-Doves,Robins,Sparrows are all laying on eggs right now.
The Robins and Mourningdoves in my Blue Spruce, the Sparrows in my two birdhouses.
Judging by the way the Blackbirds behave when they see a
Crow,I think some babies have already been born, but I am only an amateur birder, learn from observing and reading about birds habits.
And Lucky is right,if you take the nest away, even if it has eggs, the birds will just start the whole process over again and build elsewhere.
Hopefully the babies are not there yet.
