can dogs get Hepatitis C from humans?
Question: I am so worried Yesterday an old friend came to visit. Her son, an adorable 13 year old, contracted hepatitis C during an operation. Well, yesterday he was outside playing with our dog ... when I went out, he was sitting at the picnic table and our pooch was just sitting licking his hand. He smiled and said ... she is a good nurse. Seems he had cut himself and she was licking away the wound. Can my beloved pooch contract the hepatitis????? :( I have googled for an hour and can find nothing on this. Answer: As far as is known, this disease is not transferred from human to animal. I checked two textbooks that I think are good references and there is no mention of any possibility of contagiousness of Hepatitis C or B from humans to dogs. I also checked an online database -- and was reminded that monkeys can harbor hepatitis B-- but no mention of dogs. I can't say for certain it doesn't occur based on this but it seems pretty unlikely. Dr.M. Richards DMV Answer: Thank you Answer: Monkeys can harbour Hepatitis B nut not A or C and there has never been a case in any database reported of infection of any kind of hepatitis from a dog to human. Answer: I doubt it but I'd call the vet and ask just in case, you wouldn't want your dog passing it on to other people! Answer: ewww arent kids just grose sometimes a friend of mine is an ex junkie. he has hep C from sharing needles or such. one day a group of us went to the hospital and asked some questions (we share glasses etc, wanted to be sure). the doc at the outpatients said i would have to drink at least 20ltrs of his saliva to even have a chance of getting it (diff to sharing needles and sexual transmission stuff). that humans so im sure pupsy will be find.....
