Question:
I considered writing to her and recomemnding she try to raise money in another way but I suppose at least she is trying to help her cat if it not a fraud? How does one verify this?

Answer:
Its a nice 'story' . . .

. . .but I'm sure its some sweaty, balding, hairy pervert in a stained tank top prending to be a helpless 14 year old girl. . . .

. . . It sounds like a hoax, but probably a profitable hoax. . . .

Interesting, none the less. . . .

Answer:
I dont like that idea at all...
Not only will she be giving out her home
address... but shes putting her picture up. PEOPLE
are sick... and... well shes in GREAT danger...
but wheres her parent??

Answer:
I do not know what to think about that. I mean at least she is not just asking give me money. I mean I guess she will send a poem. I just wonder if the cat really needs help or she want the money or the parents. I mean she looks like a sweet girl. I am not sure. Down at the bottom there was a question and answer and she said the cat would be fine for a few months. If the cats needs medical help is she in pain with those stones. I am not sure why she does not get the vet to do it and set up a payment plan. I hate to see her kitty die but I also do not know what to think about this.

Answer:
Whoever put the ad up probably just googled to get a photo. . .

Answer:
they've made $65USD already!

Answer:
She posted to another cat forum so that is where I found her - she is a member there. I told her she needs to autheticate her plea - maybe with a vet letter, signed. And suggsetd more safe ideas - like a bake sale ir involving her school classes to help raise money. Kids here raise money for the local Animal Rescue all the time (and our hospital, and even some of my patients) but it is done in a safe group manner with adult supervision. And the hospital and Animal Rescue are known entities!

Answer:
The seller (or seller's family / person she knows) has been selling on ebay during the past 12 mos -- have 40+ comments (all but 3 are positive comments). Scam or not scam? hard to say -- one person asked a question regarding whether ordering a poem next week would be fast enough to save the kitten and the reply posted was that the kitten's surgery can wait for a couple of months. Sooooo, if this is not a scam, and the kitten's condition does not require immediate surgery, then why don't they toss some extra junk onto ebay and use the proceeds to fund the surgery? Sounds a bit fishy

Answer:
Well, 14 years old is too young to be on frigen e-bay reguardless.
And yes it sounds fishy to me.

Answer:
OK, shes wearing a $100.00 US pair of jeans, looks like she is sitting on a leather chair, with a fooseball (sp) table in the back ground.............hmmmmmm, doesn't look like she needs financial help to me, try selling the fooseball table for the vet bill!

Answer:

Just another lazy person not willing to pay 500 dollars for vet bills, if they really love their cat they'd pay the 500... its not that much for someone you love so much....

Hummm. . . .Jess, just out of curiosity - do you work? or do you live at home with mom and dad still?? I don't know if I agree with your statement.

I know I would do anything in my power to help and fix anything that my kittens need, but dear, $500 does not grow on trees

For a full time normal salaried employee, that is a weeks pay. For a part timer, that could be almost a months pay!

I don't dispute that it sucks when people can't afford what their pets need.

If marty or minou needed something, it would take me a week or two to muster up that kinda dosh - I wouldnt call myself an irresponsible pet owner, just someone who can't afford that kinda money at the drop of a hat.

......................................

I Doubt this cat needs help, someone just looking for some cash. plain and simple.

Answer:
Yeah I re-read that... it sounded different than I intended it to sound...
heres what I meant...
They said the cat'd be okay for a few months right?? so if it takes the avereage person... say... a week maybe 2 to save up $500... why do they need to ask US for the money?? Thats all I meant.

Answer:
Looks like they pulled whatever it was off of ebay.

When I clicked on the link, it came up as invalid - so it must've been a hoax or ebay had some complaints - cuz its gone.

I WISH....

Answer:
okay whatever your job is...
500 dollars can be made in a few months or a few weeks it depends on your job...

Answer:
Not that I'm rich or even flush with cash..... However, I do keep a seperate bank account....just a regular savings acct, with a minimum balance of $500. This account is STRICTLY for my pets. If one of them required emergency attention... I can almost guarantee it will cost (or begin at costing) that much money. I want to know they will be able to get the help they might need, and as I KNOW I'd already be sick with worry over whatever required this emerg care..I don't want to also be sick worrying about whether I can give it to them OR feed my kids this month.

It wasn't easy to build it up, but, once it was in there...I feel alot better
Just a suggestion for anyone who feels the same way. When times are good, CYA!!! Just in case

I guess that still would be easier for you, you have 2 jobs! I'm sure the wage for a copper is pretty good! What does a DJ make these days?

I just started my job - my saving account is tapped out right now. . . poor me. . .
