Dirty booty

Question:
I'm curious if anyone else does this to their inside dogs. My pup's tail is curled so his butt is always exposed as opposed to other dogs where the tail hangs down. After he does his business, I always get some toilet paper and wipe his butt right after we go inside. It's not poop that I usually see, but the stuff that comes out of the anal glands. (I'm pretty sure by the smell. ewww!) Is anyone else anal about this? (pardon the pun!) I just don't want his wet butt to get on my couch or carpet or ME! I wish I could teach him how to scoot in the grass or something so I didn't have to wipe it, he always cleans himself after he pee's, so I don't think its too far fetched! I'm not necessarily looking for a solution, but more or less just want to know who else wipes their dogs bootie!

Answer:
I've never seen other stuff besides poop on my dogs but so i'm sort of confused, is this normal for both of your dogs?

Answer:
dogs have anal glands that secrete (sp?) kinda like a smelly lubricant to help pass their stools .

Capone doesn't need to but I wouldn't hesitate to clean him up if need be.

Answer:
My doggies don't get umm.. juice that lingers, but if they did, I'm 100% sure I'd fix 'em up. Sometimes when they eat grass or one strand of my hair...

Answer:
Levi's tail is "up" 99 percent of the time, but I've never had to do any...wiping. I've always noticed that whenever Levi poops, a bit of liquid squirts out (sorry for the image) when he's done. And every once in awhile he'll scoot.

Maybe your pup can't get rid of the anal gland liquid like most dogs and this is why you have to wipe.

I think that that is the problem. It didn't happen much before he had his first anal gland problem. Hopefully it will fix itself soon. He hasn't scooted in a week or so, so maybe that means he's making progress.

Prin, Davy pooped and it was hanging by a hair until the rest of the poop came out. My hair is kinda long, so I guess he ate it somehow..hahaha! Gross!

And they look so embarrassed when it happens, eh? My hair is getting long so sometimes they're just stuck. Poor doggies.

Answer:
My mom's papillon would get poop stuck in the long hair by his butt, so after pretty much every potty break, he got a rear end bath in the sink. He wouldn't let you wipe it, but he didn't mind the squirt down. I've never had a dog that I had to wipe its butt - but I would if I had to!

Answer:
Missie some times has to have her bum wiped. Funniest thing I ever saw was her scoot down the arm of the couch with her legs over the arm. Crap streak right down the whole arm. Between bum grooming. Didn't make that mistake again. Our fur kids gotta love them.
