Insurance Question
Question: Ive been reading threads about insurance lately and am confused. Is it the home owners insurance that you need to let know if you have a dog and the price goes up and they wont insure if you have specific breeds? or am I just way off base here? Answer: Yes, you are totally on base! That is what I have read a lot of people speaking about. It's crazy, but true. As if a Golden Retriever cannot be vicious and a Rottweiler cannot be sweet- damn stereotypes!! Answer: when we went to adopt our pup, we were told a few other families had backed out because they thought the pups "may be" a pitt mix, and they didn't want to risk losing their insurance. The shelter we got him from disclosed it to us, but his adoption papers are written up as basenji-mix. I know our insurance company will not insure if you own a specific breed, and the price goes through the roof for ANY dog. Answer: Originally Posted by Angeleyes1437 Yes, you are totally on base! I agree with you and I just called my insurance company and they said I dont even have to tell them I have dogs, and they dont have a breed specific list. The only reason Id have to tell them I have dogs is if one or more of my dogs have bit someone in the past. Thanks for you quick reply, I was worried I didn't have some kind of insurance that I should have!!!! Is it the home owners insurance that you need to let know if you have a dog and the price goes up and they wont insure if you have specific breeds? or am I just way off base here? It's very true!! The reason more people are not having a problem, is because their insurance company doesn't even know they have a dog! My insurance company told me if I got a dog, I would be obligated to tell them, and if it was a "specific" breed, it would go up and possibly not be re-newed at all! Answer: Originally Posted by SarahLynn123 For house insurance right? yes, for house insurance. Answer: That's true. They don't ask, I don't tell. I have a APBT... I am very responsible and would be extremely upset (like many others) if I had to be punished for owning a specific breed (again, like many others are being punished). I mean, any breed dog can be bad while any breed dog can be good- it's breedism. I'm sad now... it sucks that we have to face these ridiculous issues. It does suck, I feel for everyone that has to deal with it Answer: Thanks And my pooch, like many other APBT's is so cute and sweet- if only people knew... Answer: Not all insurance companies discriminate against certain breeds. We were never asked by our insurance company if we had any dogs. I know that some do have a list and do refuse insurance, but this is ludicrous! I think breed bans by insurance companies are ridiculous. Insurance companies should be glad that people have dogs. They act as a deterant to intruders. Who in their right mind would want to break in to a house that has a dog that could have the potential to bite and defend it's own property? Most thieves are amateurs who avoid anything that makes a noise, including a dog. I understand that insurance companies don't like the liability part if a dog does bite someone and then sues, but that is ridiculous. Most pets never bite! Answer: I think some smart person out there could make a fortune (especially right now !) If they opened up a "Dog friendly" or "Breed friendly" insurance company!! Answer: I agree... who's down to start a business venture?? It would seriously make a killing!! Answer: You are right! I worked in Insurance and when I would do Home quotes they would always ask and price would go up! There are very few companys anymore that will not raise their rates for everything. It makes me so mad! Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
