Anyone have their dog on Burns?

Question:
We have Gomez the puppy on Burns Mini Bites and he seems to love it, his coat is shinier and he doesn't smell like he did on his previous food -

According to pack instructions 100 grams per day for his 10 pounds of body weight - to me it seems little, but he is thriving on it!

Anyone else feeding Burns?

Answer:
I don't feed Burns but my friend's swears by it. She has to get hers delievered - do you have to have it shipped too?

She was told that Burns is such a complete food that her dogs don't need to have any vaccinations. Did they tell you that too?

I plan on getting my dog on the home-cooked diet when he gets out of his growing phase. He's almost a year now, so not long to wait!

What breed is your puppy?

Melissa

Answer:
I had only heard of it once.. in the discussion on vaccinations, but I was curious.

In looking at the ingredients, I'd sadly even feed purina pro plan over the majority of food by this company, and the ingredients in commercial food scare me.

Too many of their products number one ingredient in brown rice, with their active formulas having white rice as number one. The mini bites have brown rice as number one, and white as number three.

Answer:
Lissa, I live in London, UK, so the Burns is available in specialized pet shops, so no problems there, but no one has mentioned to me anything about the vaccinations, will have to ask the vet...

The puppy Gomez is a Norfolk Terrier

mafiaprincess, what is wrong with brown rice? our vet said it was quite healthy and there is nothing at all artificial in the food which is one of the reasons we put him on it in the first place...

Gomez will always be a small dog (max 11-12 pounds) so will always stay on the mini bites...

Answer:
Rice shouldn't be the first or second ingredient in food. Heck, I won't feed food that it's in the top 4. While brown is better than white, it isn't good enough that it should be the majority of what is in a dog food, let alone having brown and white in the top ingredients. That is a lot of filler rather than anything truely good for your dog. Meat sources should be at least number one and two in the ingredients list.
