Cats using the toilet????
Question: I was at a party last night and the conversation came up about training animals to use toilets. I knew some one who said thier cat did use the toilet but had never seen it to know for sure. I was just wondering out of curiosity if any one has a cat that does this and how common it is? Answer: I have a friend who has two doted on kitties who use the toilet to do their business. He trained them using some sort of made-for-kitties training seat.. like a potty seat for cats. His water bill is very high though because once they learned to flush the toilet it became a favorite past-time. I don't know much about any of it though -- only that it can be done! Answer: I'm in the process of training Momma Cat to use the toilet right now. You have to slowly raise the litter box until it is as high as the toilet, then put it on the toilet, then put a bowl full of litter in the toilet, then gradually put less and less litter in, then start putting in water, then eventually take away the bowl in the toilet and presto, no more cleaning litter boxes! I'm at the stage where the litter box is on top of the toilet right now, the next step will be the hardest, so I'm taking it very slow. I think JDG is toilet training her kittens too. Curious to see how many other have done it, and how many have been succesful! Answer: My friend's cat did it without training. Her sister lived in the basement and whenever the mom would go down to do laundry, she'd smell something and start screaming at her for not flushing, "That's disgusting!!!" and the sister kept denying it and denying it. One day they caught the cat in the act. Answer: I would start to worry when they trot off to the b/r with the newpaper and slam the door behind them. Actually, I've seen the same trainer on Animal Planet and other shows. He has a book on training your cats. He says cats are easier to train (hard to believe) then dogs, it's just that they don't always perform tricks on cue...it's still on their terms! Answer: I am training my sister's kitties right now. We are at the step where the litter box is the same height as the toilet right now.... Answer: Well, here's Rocky doing his thing! Just kidding,if it were only so Answer: I tried training Loki to use the toilet, he would have none of it. We only have one bathroom, and he'd hold it until we moved the litterbox so that we could pee, and then run in and use it while it was on the floor. D'oh! Answer: that is so cute! I know people who train their dogs to pee in the shower. I'm sure it's easier... but not for nothing... isn't that a little gross? Or am I over reacting? Answer: i heard of people training to dogs to pee in the shower too, personally i think its gross if i go out to long and he can't hold it I think it in his right to make me clean the floor, at least then I know i'm not steping in it in the shower.
