My cat peed on herself.

Question:
I was playing with Frankie the other morning, and noticed she smelled very strongly of pee. She was damp in the bum, as she has very long hair. She is neutered, and is in fine spirits, eating well, drinking lots, all that, and has only done it the one time. Is this common? And how often should I bathe an indoor long haired cat?

Thanks.

Answer:
I would try to bathe your cat as little as neccesary to avoid aggrevating her skin. Try using baby shampoo... that always works best on my fur babies

However, for the peeing issue... how old is your cat? As my poodle got older she would sometimes pee on herself during the night. :(

I think urinating problems can also be signals of kidney problems or other issues. I would check with your vet, however I know age does sometimes play a factor in this type of problem.

Answer:
Do you mean she accidentally got her fur wet in the litterbox? If so, it's often necessary to keep the fur clipped on the back end of long haired cats.

If she peed on herself without knowing she did so, then I would take her to the vet.

Answer:
I think he means she urinated on herself. Not to jump the gun, excessive drinking and urination problems can also be signs of diabetes. I would definitely bring her to your vet for tests. It could be nothing at all, but it could be something serious.
