Question:
hello..i'm new here..but i have a question, thought maybe i could find an answer here..my cat is 7 years old..recently i have noticed that a small patch of fur is missing from the outside of both of her arms, just above her paws..i would assume that she has been nibbling..any idea why she does this or if there is any cause for concern. thanks in advance.

Answer:
I think it could be a number of things like allergies, ringworm or even stress. This is a guess though....my cat has no hair to loose..LOL. I would bring her to the vet and have it checked out.

Answer:
It's a cause for concern, but NOT panic. Just have it checked out by your vet. In the meantime, I'd suggest washing your hands after handling your cat JUST IN CASE it's ringworm.

Answer:
One of mine chews the fur off of her tail. It started out as an underlying abcess, but turned into some sort of neurotic behavior. She still does it even though the abcess was treated long ago. Best to have a vet check it out, could be any number of things.

Answer:
I doubt it's ringworm. Occasionally you will see only scaly patches, a bit of irregular hairloss, or just a few broken hairs around the face in ringworm cases. It sometimes resembles demodectic mange(loss of hair around eyes and eyelids giving a moth-eaten appearance). From the picture, it doesn't seem to be scaly or red, so it's most likely not the fungus. You'll want to take her to the vet to find out what it is, though. Don't worry too much about it. =)

The cat may very well be man's best friend, but would never stoop to admitting it.

Answer:
Yes, I think cats do too, although I don't know the exact location.
