Answer:
I dont know exactly how I came up with Nya. I think I wanted to name her Nyla, but someone mentioned that was what Britney Spears named her restaurant that failed, and I didn't like that, so I guess I just dropped the "L". I think it's pretty.
I dont like Buddy's name. I think it's stupid and boring. But I didn't have a say. My roommate just called him Buddy, and really wanted him to be named that. Matt liked it, and so it stayed. If it were up to me, my friend came up with a name for him that I just LOVED. Since the "m" on his forhead was perfectly connected when he was a kitten, and I know tabbies have the M, but it's usually broken. I thought it was cute. I wanted to name him Mugatu (from Zoolander) because I thought it was appropriate for him! Matt refused to budge

Mellie -- given name Melody, apropos -- she's a little song.
Tommy -- couldn't come up with anything better -- he's just an average cat.
Tim -- my parents stuck me with that (couldn't come up with anything better?)

Answer:
Miss Mischief is known as Missy we call her anything but white (she's black) AKA doodles poo poo and hey cat!
Bailey-Jane is called sweetie pie, fuzz-butt, miss priss and pookie
Why??? Who KNOWS! it's what comes to mind at the time. The names usually fit at the moment!
Answer:
Our cats names come from either their appearance or personality. i always wait for them to "tell" me the name they want. So they go like this:
Ankhesnenamun Ketesh Merentiye: Ancient Egyptian for Forever Beautiful Daughter of the Sun. We call her Ketesh for short. Ketesh means beautiful. Jason loves Ancient Egyptian stuff.
Ninquetal: Elvish for White foot. (she has 2 white toes on each of her front paws) we call her Ninque. Pronounced Nink. We are both Tolkien nuts so I had to give one of my cats an Elvish name.
Halcyon: Peaceful/serene. We call her Haly....she's just too sweet.
Well we did Egyptian and Elvish so we had to do something different.

Cats are our inspiration, comfort and joy. No matter what we do, they're always there.
Answer:
Punky because she was a mischevious, punky, little cat when I got her. When I was young my parents tonk had a litter of kittens, I named "mine" Punky after my favorite TV show at the time -- Punky Brewster. She was the only cat given to a family friend that lived far away, so I never saw her again. It was kind of fitting that my first cat be named Punky.
Elly because from day one it was obvious that she was a girly little princess. To me, the name Elly is very feminine and dainty, just like the cat turned out. I originally grabbed the name "Elli" from norse mythology.

Another canned response (actually cut and pasted from an old thread):
Jinx - named after a character in a book (The Manhattan Hunt Club), although the character in the book was a girl, and it was spelled Jinks, I like it better with the "X". Then after I brought him home, he was always under my feet, since he's so dark, he tends to get stepped on or kicked a lot at night if you're not careful, so Jinx really suited him.
Tilak (Tee-lock) - was named before I got her, by Ahbay, aka "spittles" (another member on this forum). Tilak is a Hindi name, and the story goes, the mark on her forehead reminded Ahbay of Tilak. (All of her cats have Hindi names.)

Dude, I haven't thought about that show in years. Ah, the outfits that girl wore! Haha, I wonder why that's never in re-run on some obscure channel.

Answer:
Yeah, I saw you can buy season one at Amazon.com not too long ago... but it is surprising it isn't re-ran somewhere. Soleil Moon Frye, (Punky), resurfaced for a while a few years ago but I haven't seen her in anything in a while.

Does anyone remember the animated Punky Brewster series? Why is that anything popular in the 80s was an animated series? The A Team, Wrestle-mania, the list goes on.
But back on track...My boyfriend and I are music lovers, so we ended up with:
Miles: For the late, great Miles Davis ... our Miles is so mild tempered, that name just suits him.
Nico: Named for the beautiful German model who sang with the Velvet Underground on their first record. Of course, our Nico turned out to be a boy, but the name had stuck -- later we found out Neko means "cat" in Japanese.
Mom: Soooooo original -- she was our mama kitty, and we never came up with anything else we liked. Besides, it's kind of fun to call her Mom and get to say stuff to her that you would never say to your real mother (Shut up, MOM -- leave me alone, MOM -- you're so crazy, MOM).

Elliot- because I always liked the name for a girl and I thought it would be cute for a cat.
Smith/Smyth/Smythe-the front runner for the new kitten I am getting if it is a boy. I have not come up w/ any girl names yet that I like.
Answer:
Muffins
sad story..... So my first kitty right before Muffins, I had gotten from a friend who had a litter of 4 kittens. (Just to let you know, at this point I was totally ignorant about cats - thanks now to the cat forum, I have learned so much.) The daughter of my friend, a little 7 year old girl named her Muffins. Muffins was taken away from her mother way too early, taken away from her litter mates, and was the runt of the litter. She got sick and died pretty quickly after I got her. It was sooooooooo sad I then adopted another kitty and named her Muffins after the first Muffins.
Macy
Macy was a stray who turned up on my aunts barn one day. She was eMACIated. My aunt said she could see every bone in her body and called her Macy. After a few months of care, though, she is now a healthy, hefty little kitty.
so.... actually I haven't named either of them.
Answer:
I have 2 cats - the black and white one is Sweetpea - that's what my husband calls me so I named her that and my little deaf cat is Pene (pronounced pee-knee) When we got her she was 4 ounces and my son said she looks like the size of a Peanut so we called her Peanut but then we shortened it and came up with Pene. We can call her anything I guess, since she can't hear anyway - I call her baby girl and when I can't find her I ask the big cat - "Where's your baby sister"? We just got a puppy and her name is Tana - short for Montana - my husband's favorite place.
Answer:
Daizy is actualy Krazy Daizy Mazie from Dr Seuss's Daisy Masie head (or something like that) and she lives up to her name.....she was going to be drusilla (from buffy) but when I brought her home and watced her for a couple of days she wasn't as dark and moddy like dru was so she became daizy. she has some nicknames: brat, brat cat, princess, miss priss, lazy and evil. Though she's not really too evil just really spoiled.

Answer:
Our cats' name have evolved so much:
Jade--Actually the name he had before being given to my boyfriend. His current nickname is Roosky Rooter. It evolved from me starting to call him Jade-a-roo.
Chi-Chi--Her real name is Tichiba, named incorrectly after the witch, Tituba, since she is a black cat. It was quickly shortening to Tichi but everyone called her Chi-chi and it stuck. She likes to be call "girlfriend" pronounced nasally as "grrrfrennn." Other than that she is anything ending in chi, Sneaky-chi, Special-chi, Freaky-chi, Stinky-chi, Cutie-chi, you get point.
Shadow--RIP, also the name that he had when my boyfriend got him. He was a big big boy so I called him Mr. Man, Mr. Mannerism. Right before his nickname was DoDo and DoDi. Poor poor Dodo!
