Cats that open doors...
Question: Does anyone have a cat that can open doors? My little Tweak can...and not just push them open with her nose or feet, but she literally jumps up hangs on the doorknob and opens the door. We have to lock the bedroom door now if we want to sleep at night. I can't help but sit there and crack up every morning when I hear her outside hanging on the doorknob desparately trying to open it. I have standard doorknobs too - not the kind that are like a latch, but the round ones you have to wrap your hand around to open. Cats never cease to amaze me. I was just curious if anyone else out there has a cat that can do this. Answer: Well i'm sure lots of cats can open a latch door, it wouldn't be too complicated for them to learn after watching so many times, just like a child. But it is amazing that your cats can open the round ones too. Thanks for the siggy Des! I'm convinced he wasn't really a cat though, he was waaaaaaaay too smart and I swear he had ESP! ~Melissa ~FengShui Bengals Answer: True story - my boyfriend used to have a stray cat that came in his cat flap and opened the fridge door and ate the cheese he then moved house, and the cat appeared regularly at his new house! Wierd Answer: Ginza can open round-handle doors too. We don't usually lock doors anymore. Answer: Cleveland can open door handles. I thing it is beacue he is so big that he can reach really easily and an work at them. Nothing is safe anymore Claire x There are many intelligent species in the universe. They are all owned by cats! Answer: no mine doesnt! there too lazy Answer: Yes, my old cat Tom cat open doors to let himself in and out. My others can;t it amazes me how they haven't copied him - I guess they are not as intelligent. Take a look at my veterinay website - www.vetpro.co.uk Forums, photo gallery, cat news etc. Answer: My cats have always opened doors;cabinet doors, room, you name it. When Oscar was younger and did reach but wasn't strong enough he'd paw at the handle, didn't open the door but made such a racket (and LOL sometimes if it was the bathroom door) Madam doesn't open doors but just paws at them.. Wierd wow, I would be freaked out.... yet, what an interesting story. How far did he move from the old house the new one? "There is no snooze button on a cat who wants breakfast." Answer: Boomer does this - he also knows how to open the upper kitchen cabinets to paw a treat bag out and then open it and share it with his brothers (so now the treats stay safetly locked up in a container - which we hear him knocking around at night in the hope the lid will just pop off) Answer: Our old cat Oscar could do the latch handles, but he was to lazy to figure out the round handles after we moved. One of my first projects when I moved in by myself was 'kiddy proofing' the cabinets with child proof locks so the cats couldn't get to the rat posion. When Crathes is really mad he goes to the kitchen cabinet and yanks as hard as he can until I put him up. Answer: My big kitty cat Robin could always open doors... he never figured out how to unlock them though... thank goodness. I think he's figured out that you have to turn the knob, but isn't quite able to get it done. I see him standing on the end table and sort of hugging the knob, but falling off the table without being able to turn it. But it's a pull door so I don't think there's much chance of him ever doing it. Though Zoltan and Knievel have both managed to turn on the bathtub faucet, which have round knobs. I have visions of coming home to a flooded home. Answer: Cute Kitty - he only moved about 2 blocks away but the stray seems to have followed him and has taken up residence in his garden! He had to block up the cat flap in his new house as it is definitely a feral cat and quite disgustingly flea ridden and wild. We think it came from a nearby farm and just roams the area looking for free food! It is impossible to catch and a huge tom cat so quite scary looking! He used to find cat bite marks in his cheese though which amuses me but not him! I didn't believe him at first - until I saw it! It has been in the neighbourhood for years now and seems to be thriving! Luckily my bf has moved in with me now and it hasn't followed! Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
