Need advice please ! Moving cross country with 2 cats and
Question: my children. I have asked advice from other boards, but new ideas are always good. I am moving from the South , USA to Minnesota(little falls). I didn't know how difficult it is to travel with pets until I have been trying to. I am not the greatest long distance driver, so my husband will be doing most of the driving. I am not taking furniture because of this, and do not have the money to ship my furniture so I will be starting over furniture wise.I wanted to rent a cargo van, and move my computer, bookd and kids toys this way, but the companies that rent these vans do not rent for out of state trips. I only have a toyota camry and will be leaving it for my husband to return to get. I am thinking of renting a mini van and shipping my 12 or 13 boxes by mail and just taking the cats and clothes and kids in a van . I was thinking of buying two big cages to put the cats in with litter boxes and water. Am I thinking too big. Has anyone ever did this? Any help. I have looked at some articles but they don't seem to be much help. Thanks cat. Answer: I moved from WI to NM with 2 cats. My mom came with me. We rented a U-haul and towed a trailor for my car. So, mom, myself, and 2 cats all in the front of the U-haul. We did spend an overnight in a hotel, so the cats had their litterboxes at night. I don't like the idea of ever letting the cats out of the carriers in the car, I've heard too many sad stories about that. So, I kept mine drugged on acepromazine and in their carriers at all times. They slept the whole trip. They'd each wake up for a few minutes every hour or so and meow to let us know how unhappy they were with the whole thing, but for the most part they just slept. Just beware, many rental places will say no pets. We did it anyways though. We also snuck them into the hotel with us. Jennifer Answer: Putting them in a big carrier is a good thing with food, water and small cat box. Be sure and have them chipped and with a collar with cell phone number on a tag so you could be reached while traveling incase the unthinkable happened. Put their favorite bed or articles with your scent on in the carrier with them. I traveled with my sisters cats. We checked into a hotel and didnt ask if they took pets. Just brought them in quietly!!! Didnt leave any traces of them when we left. Best of luck on your move. ~Merry~ Answer: We went from the East Coast to the West Coast with two cats. I believe Motel 6 has a universal pets allowed policy. We noticed the cats would start crying for a break at about 8-10 hours into each trip, so we would stop at a motel, sleep for eight hours, then start again. ~Melissa ~FengShui Bengals Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
