Silica gel cat litter?
Question: I just bought a bag of this at Walmart yesterday and I think I really like the stuff! I still have the traditional litter box, but I also put a litter box out with this silica sand in it. I didn't know if Cookie or Ellie would use it, but they appear to be using it just fine! I like the way it totally destroys odor. It doesn't clump the urine, so when cleaning out the litter box, you just remove the solid waste and rake the urine spots into the rest of the litter until it disappears. Sounds unsanitary but from what I'm reading, it's actually superior to traditional litter! Also a 4lb bag absorbs what would take 10 bags of traditional litter to absorb! It was like $3.63 a bag. I was just curious if any of you had tried it and what you thought of it. Click here to read about it. Stephanie Answer: I've used it before and was impressed by it's superior odor control. It was great litter, but I stopped using it because of the cost. Answer: I've used it, and thought it worked really well for supressing odor. My cats tracked it really bad, however, and stepping on the pellets across the basement floor hurt the feet, so I went back to the clay stuff.... Chrystal Compliments of ForJazz Answer: Cookie and Ellie *so far* aren't tracking too badly yet. Hopefully they'll leave it where it belongs... Stephanie Answer: How is it as far as dust goes? Answer: coaster wrote: How is it as far as dust goes? I never had any dust. If the cats can keep it in the litter box, and you can handle the little extra money, I think its a great way to go - especially if odor control is your number one concern... Chrystal Compliments of ForJazz Answer: No, there's no dust at all. For me, I think it's cheaper than what we were using, but it depends what you currently use and if it's worth it to you to change. We don't have an out-of-the-way spot to put the litter box in--- it has to sit in the laundry room, which is next to the kitchen. So we need something as dust free and odor free as possible. We have friends and family who aren't used to house cats so I try to keep my house smelling clean, so no one will think badly of our kitties! Stephanie Answer: Can you get it at any major pet store? Answer: poppypower wrote: is it like the stuff we have here bob martin litter crystals? If it says the crystals are silica gel or silica sand, than it probably is the same or very similar. MeowN wrote: Can you get it at any major pet store? I would think so. Our Walmart just started carrying it. This is the Makall brand. I think Fresh Step makes one similar but this one is finer grains and works better, IMO. Stephanie Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
