About time to VET the cat
Question: I think its about time to get ChingChing to do a VET check up. Few things I like to do, but I'd like to also check with you guys if I miss anything that should be done. Also would like to enquiry about how much you guys/gals pay. (Obviously it will have difference between US/Canada/Australia/Wherever... but I just like to get a rough idea. So things I like to do is: - Flea treatment: I remeber some of you introduce the product "Frontline" which is suppose to be very good. Even after the bath we still catch a flea or 2 on Ching's head area. So would like to rid of them to make him feel more comfy - Age Check - General Health Check - Update the Microchip? Necessary? The owner has dumped him... do I need any paper work from the owner for this kind of thing? - Also, roughly how much in your country? Thanks for the answer Answer: the clinic I work at charges $40 for a "wellness" exam. That would cover most everything you mention as far as age and scanning for the microchip number. If he actually does have a microchip, you should be able to call the company and update the information - if they get picky about it, ask if the vet will call and confirm you are the new owner. Frontline is usually $10-$15 per dose (once a month) but I could be a little off on that. Is he due for any vaccines? If so, they'll probably do those as well. When you bathe her next time, take a wet washcloth and get her face and head wet, then get her good and sudsy with the flea shampoo BEFORE you get the rest of her body wet. When she gets soaked, the fleas run up to her head because they are trying to stay out of the water but if you have her face, head and neck soaped up before they get there they have no place to hide. Put some eye ointment in her eyes first too, so they are protected from the soap. Answer: He is neutered? If not then get him done. You can also get an ear cleaner to clean his ears out once a week with. You should get blood work done and see if he is alright, do a stool sample too (you should take some fresh poop and they'll analyze it for you ). Vaccinate him is a good idea too. It will depend on if he goes outside and inside which means he'll need vaccines every year or if he'll be inside only I think it will be every couple of years. ~~Des & Baby~~ Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
