Tipping water bowls!

Question:
I am new to the forum! I am actually wondering if anyone else is having this issue with their cat... my cat is past month has decided to start playing with her water. She'll tip the bowl every morning as if there is something underneath it. Then she will start taking her paw and splashing water out of her water bowl. We thought that her food and water dish may have been in a too high traffic area, so we moved it to a lower traffic area, but she is still doing it! Does anyone know why she is doing this or how to stop her?
Answer:
Use a heavy porcelain bowl with a wide base that's too heavy to tip over. Then get a pet tray (tray with raised rims) and put the bowl on there. That will prevent tipping and contain splashing.

Answer:
Also, Make sure the water bowl is thoroughly cleaned at least once a day, preferably twice. She could be doing it because she feels the water bowl is dirty.

Answer:
We do change the water once a day in the morning... do you mean washing it out with soap though?
Answer:
If you had several bowls, you could have one "in use" bowl, one that's sitting in the dishwasher waiting to be washed, and one in the cabinet on "standby" to switch out with the one in use when you change the water.

Answer:
I used to have a plastic gravity-fed water container. Until Toby decided he wanted to play with it and kept knocking the jug over, thus sending the water in the jug pouring onto the floor. We lost Toby, and then BooBoo was doing it.
It was like they could hear the water gurgling through the opening...and wanted to fish their paws in there to catch the sound or the bubbles.
I have switched to a ceramic bowl that I check twice daily for cleanliness and water level. S-Jo likes to dip her paw in the water and lick it off, rather than lapping. She sometimes shakes her foot and water will fly everywhere.
I just clean it up, it isn't a big deal to me. I usually keep a folded paper towel under the bowl to catch whatever drips down the sides. Any bigger and they claw it up.
I like the idea of a tray, and you could use towels or paper towels under the bowl to sop up water.
I have the ability of single-minded determination and focu... Hey look, a cat!
Answer:
That's a good idea, Tim. Having clean, fresh bowls ready to swap out sure is easier than hand washing kitty's water dish 2 times a day like i used to do.

Schnitz has began playing with his water bowl in the last couple of months also. Some days I come home from work the the bowl is almost empty from his splashing around.
I ended up getting a big tray to put under the bowl. He still splashes around but at least the water is more contained with the tray.
Answer:
We use something similar to one of these...
Difference is the jug actually looks like a water cooler jug... and it has a little hole at the bottom that will only let the water level in the dish go to a certain level and keep it there till it runs out.
Never have issues with it... and usually holds a good weeks worth of water.
Answer:
I am seconding the heavy bowl suggestion. I used to use one of those for Gray and it was never an issue.
