Maggie Needs Happy Thoughts....
Question: Had to take her into emergency tonight and they're keeping her. Friday night when I came home she didn't greet me at the door, which is unusual, found her upstairs and also found some vomit in the hallway. She definitely wasn't herself, but about an hour later she came downstairs and ate a little wet food. She perked up and by bedtime she was really ready for her dry food. She was fine Saturday. Then yesterday morning I went to scoop the litterbox and found a small amount of liquid diarrhea with a little blood in it and some vomit. Wasn't sure who it was since Holly just has colitis last week and finished the last of her meds on Saturday. Segregated everybody...Kobi ruled himself out last night, but Maggie & Holly never pooped until I was at work today. Turned out it was Maggie. In addition, she hardly ate anything since yesterday afternoon. I tried enticing her with some chicken tonight and she walked away from it...definitely not Maggie. She was moving really slow too. So I took her in. Vet doesn't think there's a blockage (no belly sensitivity), no fever. Basically at this point, no clue what's going on. Could be anything from major organ failure to a flu bug and she did mention pancreatitis. Kept her to give her IV fluids and run bloodwork, will likely do an ultrasound tomorrow. Of course, I'm a bit of a wreck. Everything was going so smoothly bringing Holly in and now this. The one good thing I though of on my way home is that when she had her teeth cleaned in Sept, I had them run a full senior bloodwork on her (she's 10) for pre-op testing. And everything came up perfectly normal. I would think that if this were some sort of kidney or liver failure type thing that we would have seen evidence of something back then...it was only a little over 2 months ago. So I'm hanging my hat on a flu bug or pancreatitis. Anyway, your positive thoughts would be appreciated by me and Maggie (Kobi & Holly too). I'll post an update in the morning when I get the bloodwork results. Always remembering Onyx & Callie May Answer: Oh doodlebug, I hope it's nothing. I'll be thinking of you guys. Answer: The Woppy cats and me are sending our good wishes and licks and purrs. Cusiostiy is the very basis of education. If you said curiosity killed the cat, id say the cat died nobly. Answer: Poor Maggie I hope she's OK. My gang is sending headbutts and good thoughts to all of you. The bloodwork came back fine, white cell count a little low but not out of the normal range. And it showed she was mildly dehyrated. But she turned into the Wicked Witch of the East and was biting and snarling and wouldn't let them get near her...so they chose not to do the IV fluids for the time being. Vet said the bloodwork was so good that she's in no imminent danger and she's pretty sure there's no blockage, so let's see if she responds to some Flagyl and appetite stimulants before making her go through an ultrasound because they'll have to completely sedate her to do that. So she's home with meds, instructions to offer her anything she likes to eat. So she has a choice of Fancy Feast, baby food and human tuna right now. She nibbled on a little tuna when I put it down, but nothing exciting. I'm waiting for her to settle in for a couple hours before I try to pill her, don't want her pulling her witch act on me too. If she doesn't eat a reasonable amount by tomorrow morning she needs to go in for the ultrasound. So please keep the good thoughts coming...I'll post an update later (I'm working at home today to keep an eye on her). Always remembering Onyx & Callie May Answer: Best wishes and good thoughts for poor Maggie, and for you too! I hope she returns to good health quickly. Answer: Things are looking better. She ate all of the tuna that I gave her, but wasn't interested in the baby food or Fancy Feast. I gave her some Natural Balance food and drowned it in tuna juice and she ate all of that (1/4 of a 5.5 oz can). She took her pills without too much fuss, although I suspect she'll soon start running from me when she sees the towel come out. She's trying to get out of the room when I open the door, which is a good sign...yesterday she could care less...just laid in her bed and barely lifted her head. So I'm optimistic at this point that she won't need the ultrasound. I talked to my regular vet this afternoon and asked if Maggie was a wild woman when I took her in to get her teeth cleaned and she said no. So I guess she only gets out of control when she's feeling really lousy...she did the same thing last year when she had an abscess. Can't say as I blame her...but it's good to know so I can warn vets in the future and stay with her through any procedures she may need...if I'm around she doesn't act out. Always remembering Onyx & Callie May Answer: Hopefully she will be her old self again soon! Answer: She ate another 1/4 can of food tonight....now waiting to see what I find in the litterbox. I feel really bad about keeping her in a separate room, but really need to monitor food intake and output. Hopefully I'll be able to let her out tomorrow. Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes... Always remembering Onyx & Callie May Answer: Get well soon Maggie, I hope everything turns out ok! ~~Des & Baby~~ Answer: Doodlebug, I've been offline since Sunday night (moved!) until just this afternoon. So shocked to see your thread, but as I read through it, it became better and better news. I hope she's doing well now.... Answer: Maggie is eating great and taking her meds really well. Still waiting on the poop. She made one small piece this morning (like an inch long) and that was it...but it was solid anyway. Told her she doesn't get her "get out of jail free" card until she produces a good healthy poop. If I don't keep her segrated I'll never know if she went (there are 4 litterboxes in 3 different rooms and 3 of them are upstairs where I wouldn't necessarily see her). I talked with the vet today (I took Holly in for shots) and she agreed we need to see what she produces...so it's the guest room till she has some decent output. My parents are coming for Christmas and they'll want the room...she'd better go before then Hey Marie...I knew you were in the middle of moving nightmare...hope it went well. Everything that could go wrong, did. Even things I didn't think of. It's over. I hope. Glad to hear Maggie's doing better. Answer: Glad to hear Maggie is doing better , I hope she goes before the guests arrive . ~~Des & Baby~~ Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
