Dog uncomfortable and acting strangely
Question: I have a Florida Curr who is approximately 5-8 years old and weighs 55-60 lbs. Lately he's been acting very strange. First he stretches with his butt in the air, and sometimes his joints pop or crack. Then he lays down and crawls a little bit. Then he rolls over on his back for a few seconds. Then he gets up and does it all over again but not necessarily in that order. This is accompanied by him groaning and whining sometimes. And he does seem to be a little bit bloated. He has no problem getting up and down from the couch or bed. He has no problem walking, he doesn't limp, he is eating fine, but does seem to want fresh water alot. (He won't drink after our other dog, she has cooties apparently.) He is going potty fine (both) and no more than usual. It seems he just cannot get comfortable for more than a minute or two. Any insight before I take him to the vet on Friday would be extremely helpful. Thank You Answer: i would call the vet in the morning and explain what he is doing....my dog stretches like that....does roll on his back and whine and groan... but he does this for attention........but he is not bloated or any joints cracking..... by the way....there are no vets here so you will get the same advice i just gave you.......make the call to the vet then give us an update....also a pic or two won't hurt Answer: Sounds like bloat to me. I'd go to the vet. Answer: http://www.globalspan.net/bloat.htm Answer: Now long has this been occuring, if just in the last couple of hours a vet visit asap would be a good idea if it has been ongoing over several days may be a sign of pain possibly in the back Answer: So he was totally fine the next day; but we keep the vet visit. They found nothing wrong with him. And he was fine until last night. He started the same strange behavior again; but this time was crying and whining constantly. So this afternoon we went to the emergency vet because I couldn't handle hearing him cry like that. It was making me cry; I felt so bad for him. Anyway he has colitis and hookworms. Apparently Revolution doesn't prevent hookworms (I wish my primary vet would've told me that when they recommended it!) The only indication he had colitis was a mucuosy stool right before we left for the vet. They gave me some medicine for the hookworms and colitis and something for the pain. He's now happily and comfortably sleeping. Answer: Poor guy. Give him big hugs and kisses for me! Answer: Poor doggy! I'm glad the ER vet was able to diagnose him though. He'll be much more comfy after the treatment. Answer: He is very sweet. I would speak with your vet in depth about what to do now with the colitis. Answer: oh my what a sweetie!! Glad to hear he is doing better. Answer: What a beautiful dog! And he looks so comfy on the chair Our dogs had hooks this summer, too--and we expect they'll get them every year. Evidently hookworms are commonly carried by things like wild raccoons, of which we have many. The dogs pick up the hooks by lying on contaminated patches of soil. Our dogs are on Heartgard Plus, which is supposed to protect from hooks. We actually got a rebate because it didn't. I suspect that the hooks are just so prevalent they overwhelmed the meds... So we're just going to worm them twice a year now as a matter of course. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
